Shift: 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Unit Size: 27 beds
Typical Ratio: 1:4–5
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Call: None
Charting: Cerner
Scrub Color: Navy blue

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Med Surg/Telemetry RN for a mixed adult and pediatric unit. Nurses care for general medical-surgical, cardiac, dialysis, postoperative cardiac, and pediatric patients in a Level III Trauma teaching hospital.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of recent Med Surg RN experience
• Minimum 3 years of Telemetry experience
• Cerner experience required
• Must be comfortable caring for both adult and pediatric patients
• Strong cardiac assessment and telemetry skills required

Required Clinical Skills

• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Recognition and management of dysrhythmias
• Titration of cardiac drips
• Post-cardiac catheterization care
• Care of patients following cardiac stent placement
• General medical-surgical nursing
• Stroke and cardiac patient management

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS

Preferred: PALS

Common Patient Population

• General Med Surg patients
• Pediatric patients
• Stroke
• CHF
• Atrial fibrillation
• Cardiac arrhythmias
• Post-cardiac catheterization and stent patients
• Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients
• Patients receiving titratable cardiac infusions

Floating

Travelers must float based on hospital staffing needs.

• May float to most inpatient units
• Will not float to M3
• May assist in the Emergency Department in a helping-hands role

Equipment

• Sigma Spectrum IV pumps
• Portable cardiac monitoring
• EKG machine
• Two defibrillators available for patient transport
• Ceiling-mounted and portable Hoyer lifts
• Omnicell medication dispensing system
