Speech-Language Pathologist

Walled Lake Consolidated Schools is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will have a valid Michigan Speech-Language Pathology License and American Speech Language Hearing Association CCC (Michigan Teaching Certification preferred). They should possess knowledge and skills in the subject area of speech-language pathology and related areas, such as literacy. The candidate must have highly-developed interpersonal communication, group facilitation, organization, planning, scheduling, technology, and time management skills. They should demonstrate the ability to implement and follow through on simultaneous projects and tasks, and have knowledge of current research base across a range of disorders, changing trends, and best practices in the field of speech and language pathology. Experience and knowledge of children and youth from early intervention through adult transition age is required, along with knowledge of the workings of a school environment including an understanding of state and federal rules and regulations governing special education, Michigan Academic Standards, district curriculum, and specially-designed instruction. The candidate should also have knowledge and/or experience with integrating technology into the learning process, ability to maximize technology for effective communication with students, staff, and parents, and ability to build professional and collegial relations with staff and parents. They should also have the ability and desire to adapt, learn, and grow as an educator and be reliable and regular in attendance.

The Speech-Language Pathologist will report to the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services. Responsibilities include providing direct and consultative services that are culturally and educationally appropriate, effective, engage students, and reflect evidence-based practices. This includes providing speech and language evaluations and reevaluations, appropriate and dynamic service delivery methods, collaboration with families, and establishing a parent support component. The candidate will also provide indirect services that support students' educational programs, including analyzing the speech and language demands of the curriculum, providing staff development, observing students in classrooms, planning and preparing lessons, and communicating and coordinating with outside agencies. They will attend and facilitate IEPs and METs, support the use of augmentative/alternative communication systems, engage in professional learning and learning communities, and perform indirect activities that support students in the least restrictive environment.

The essential functions of the job include being present at the work site to perform duties, managing stressful situations, leading and managing groups of people and individuals, communicating effectively, building and maintaining a safe environment, and meeting the physical demands of the job including walking, kneeling, sitting on the floor, rising from the floor, bending, and lifting at least 20 pounds.
