PRN Inpatient/Acute Care Hospital Occupational Therapist - WVU Medicine East - BMC/JMC

Evaluates and treats patients who have difficulty performing daily tasks due to physical, emotional, cognitive, and/or psychosocial conditions. Minimum Qualifications Current or temporary occupational therapist licensure in the applicable state where services will be performed. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date. State Licensure Requirements MD: Occupational Therapist License or Occupational Therapist Temporary License through Maryland Board of Occupational Therapy Practice. OH: Occupational Therapist through the Ohio Board of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training. PA: Occupational Therapist License or Occupational Therapist Temporary License through Pennsylvania Department of State. WV: Occupational Therapist License or Occupational Therapist Limited Permit through West Virginia Board of Occupational Therapy. Preferred Qualifications One (1) year of occupational therapist experience. Core Duties and Responsibilities The following statements describe the general nature of work performed by people assigned to this position. Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team approach. Evaluates patient needs and develops and implements treatment programs for assigned patients to identify, prevent, and minimize physical disabilities and/or pain. Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities, collaborates with nursing to update appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling. Documents all treatments as monitored by supervision and according to department policies. Submits accurate charges for services rendered for patients, according to departmental policies and utilizing the billing system via the patient's EMR. Carries out oversight responsibilities to ensure supervision of COTAs, students and volunteers. Participates in education and training of staff, students, patients, and family members to assure appropriate delivery of care and to achieve the mission of WVU Medicine. Specialty Accreditation Requirements Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, in‑services, and competency validation. Heavy/Hard work: Requires strength and stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40+ lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Working Environment Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids and different types of cleaning and laundry chemicals. Skills and Abilities Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a well‑coordinated work effort and to effectively meet work schedules, including integrating multiple factors that may impact patient care. Professional Advancement Ladder Level 1 – No experience required. Level 2 – Meets requirements for previous level. Two years of experience. Level 3 – Meets requirements for previous levels. Four years of experience. Twenty Level 3 Proficiencies (if you do not have a certification). Ten Level 3 Proficiencies required annually (if you have a certification). Five Level 3 Proficiencies required annually. Level 4 – Meets requirements for previous levels. Eight years of experience. Ten Level 4 Proficiencies. Five Level 4 Proficiencies required annually. Professional Certification. Level 5 – Meets requirements for previous levels. Ten years of experience. Ten Level 5 Proficiencies. Five Level 5 Proficiencies required annually.
