And if it can be measured, it can also be realized.The Sr Mechanical Engineer is a key contributor responsible for design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment and packaging for FARO's metrology products.This position is considered a hybrid position out of our Exton, PA office. How you will make a difference @ FARO:Key individual contributor able to work autonomously to support the design of new metrology instrument products.Support projects from concept to productions in close coordination with related departments and vendorsServe as subject matter expert in the design and tuning of servo control systemsResearch and select motors, bearings, and sensors for precision axis design.Research and design power transmission mechanisms.Perform dynamic system analysis.Conduct feasibility studies of designs and concepts using engineering principles and FEA softwarePerform hands-on assembly, testing and troubleshooting of prototypes to ensure design requirements are metDevelop assembly, calibration and compensation techniques.Build BOMs for manufacturing and assemblyGuide and assist operations with creation of assembly instructionsUnderstand cross functional technology and interfaces within the product lineAnalyze and refine high level requirementsMentor other engineers and review their designs and analysisLeads the mechanical engineering of subsystems and acts as subsystem project lead when requiredInform stakeholders and cross functional team of new projects in a concise and professional way to convince and get commitmentProvide suggestions for product improvements at part and module levelThis position requires:A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Preference towards MS or PhD in Mechanical, Electrical or Robotics Engineering with advanced course work in servo controlsA minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in machine design and servo control design and tuning. Preference towards more than 10 years of experience.Expert level understanding of servo control system design and tuning for complex linear and rotary systemsPrecision machine design and evaluation for metrology, machine tool and robotics or similar applicationsDesign using Solidworks CAD software or similar to create models and drawingsFinite element analysis (FEA) using Solidworks Simulation or ANSYSDrawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)Kinematic component designMotor and Bearing designSystem error budgets and tolerance stack upsDynamic system modeling using MATLAB or similar softwareExperience with programming languages such as Python or C#What FARO can offer you: FARO has excellent benefits for you and your family.
