Registered Nurse, Ambulatory Pediatrics, 27 Hours (Days/Evenings / Rotating Saturdays)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The pediatric ambulatory RN is an integral member of the patient's healthcare team and is responsible for performing outpatient care for patients with specialty diagnoses. The RN coordinates and manages care for specialty clinic patients including newly diagnosed, established, high‑risk, and noncompliant patients in the clinic setting; stays up-to-date on current ambulatory therapies and research; promotes self‑management skills; and provides collaborative, comprehensive care that optimizes patients’ management of their illness. Practice is in compliance with hospital policy, procedures, and protocols and with the provider’s plan of care; serves as a patient and family advocate; and establishes trust and therapeutic relationships with patients and families. The registered nurse adheres to the rules and regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the health‑care continuum. The RN is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient‑care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and in accordance with established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice. JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Nursing degree: Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred); ability to obtain BSN within 4 years

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Registration and current RN licensure in the state of MA in good standing required, or ability to obtain reciprocity licence prior to start. Current basic life support (BLS) certification required. PALS / ACLS certification preferred. Additional certifications may be required for certain practice areas.

EXPERIENCE:

3‑5 years inpatient pediatric experience 1‑2 years experience in ambulatory clinic/outpatient or diagnostic testing setting PIV care and management for pediatric and adult population (if applicable to role) Knowledge of population health and relevance to practice Experience with care coordination and transitions of care as related to ambulatory practice Experience in telephone triage of symptomatic patients Knowledge of childhood/adult immunization schedules Knowledge of DME, VNA, PA and school forms

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Basic computer proficiency including ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information. Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various members of the health‑care team, patients, and families. Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work. Multilingual skills (beyond English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the medical center preferred. Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty, certification required for certain practice areas. Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement research utilization projects. Ability to effectively delegate appropriate patient care activities. Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to the patient populations served. Physical ability to meet the core job responsibilities in accordance with practice setting demands for the patient populations regularly served. Compensation Range: $38.05—$75.33 This range is based on the minimum job qualifications. Compensation also considers education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to the position.
