Job Title: Assembler – Stainless Steel Laboratory Equipment

Job Description

This role focuses on full-cycle assembly and testing of stainless steel laboratory equipment, ranging from small to large-scale products. You will independently assemble mechanical and electrical components using hand and power tools, following blueprints, wiring schematics, bills of materials, and detailed work instructions. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, and the physical capability to handle and lift heavy components while consistently meeting quality and performance standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform full-cycle assembly of stainless steel laboratory equipment, from component build-up through final testing and verification.
• Assemble small to large-scale laboratory products and equipment using hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices such as tape measures.
• Read, interpret, and apply information from engineering drawings, blueprints, wiring schematics, bills of materials, and associated work instructions on a daily basis.
• Use mechanical and electrical assembly knowledge to build products that meet established quality, safety, and performance expectations.
• Troubleshoot and repair assembly-related issues with minimal assistance, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Exercise sound judgment in selecting appropriate tools, materials, and equipment for non-repetitive and complex assembly operations.
• Verify assembled products through functional checks and visual inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
• Handle and lift components weighing up to 50–75 lbs safely and consistently throughout the workday.
• Collaborate with team members in a production environment to meet output goals, support continuous improvement, and share best practices.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment such as steel-toed boots.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area within a sheet metal and production environment.
• Participate in the interview and assessment process, including a blueprint-reading test, to demonstrate proficiency in technical documentation.

Work Environment

The position is based in a very clean, unionized sheet metal production facility of approximately 160,000 square feet. The environment is not temperature controlled, so conditions can vary with the seasons. You will work on first shift, Monday through Thursday, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime starting as early as 5:00 a.m and up to 5 hours of overtime per week as needed. The department consists of about 10 people, fostering a close-knit and collaborative atmosphere. Work involves stainless steel and sheet metal assembly using hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment. Steel-toed boots are required, and typical attire includes jeans and a t-shirt, suitable for a hands-on manufacturing setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
