Respiratory Therapist II (RRT) General Pool

Novant Health is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist II (RRT) – General Pool to provide high‑quality, evidence‑based respiratory care across a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. As part of our Healthcare & Medical Services team, you will play a key role in assessing, treating, and monitoring patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary disorders, using advanced technology and compassionate, patient‑centered care.

In this role, you will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, interpret clinical data, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to develop and adjust individualized treatment plans. You will initiate, manage, and wean patients from mechanical ventilation; administer oxygen and aerosolized medications; perform chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques; and conduct diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, bedside pulmonary function measurements, and oximetry monitoring. You will respond promptly to respiratory emergencies, including rapid response and code events, providing advanced airway management and life support interventions.

The Respiratory Therapist II serves as a clinical resource, demonstrating advanced competency in ventilator management, non‑invasive ventilation, high‑flow therapy, and specialized modalities appropriate to patient populations served, which may include adult, geriatric, pediatric, and neonatal patients depending on assignment. You will ensure safe and accurate use of respiratory equipment by setting up, calibrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining devices in accordance with departmental protocols and manufacturer guidelines, while adhering strictly to infection prevention and patient safety standards.

Education and collaboration are central to this position. You will provide ongoing education and coaching to patients and families on respiratory conditions, therapies, equipment use, and self‑management strategies, supporting Novant Health’s mission of improving health and personalized care. You will also guide and mentor less experienced therapists and students, share best practices, and contribute to a positive, team‑oriented work environment that values diversity, respect, and open communication.
