MATERIAL HANDLER SUPERVISOR

Summary You will serve as a Material Handler Supervisor in the Material Readiness Cell (MRC) Branch, in the Supply Department (Code 500), located at the NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Duties You will plan the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials based on workload projections on a regular and reoccurring basis. You will review and evaluate the work of subordinate employees, explain work requirements, methods and procedures required to perform tasks. You will coordinate with leadership and employees in developing plans for storage and arrangement of stock in accordance with agency regulations. Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code § 3326. Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel‑related purchases. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non‑ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport. Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasize quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Ability to execute, implement, and oversee DoD and Navy Supply Chain operations, relationships, and responsibilities, including the strategic execution of material movement processes. Ability to lead, supervise, and coordinate diverse personnel while prioritizing multiple resources and efforts simultaneously in a high‑traffic, dynamic, and fast‑paced operational environment. Ability to interpret instructions, relay appropriate information to personnel with a need‑to‑know, maintain rigid safety standards, and manage accurate records for performance measurement, including scheduling, communication, and timekeeping.
