Overview Stress Analyst Engineer II – Appleton, WI (GAC Appleton) Responsibilities Perform stress analysis and related activities for new and derivative designs of interior furnishings and amenities as part of outfitting new aircraft. This includes review of engineering models and drawings, preparing load calculations, finite element models, and writing stress reports in collaboration with the Structural Engineering group and Structural AR’s providing approvals. Example designs include custom cabinetry such as galleys, lavatories, closets, and other storage compartments, interior peripheries, water/waste systems, entertainment equipment installations, and seating installations. Analysis of airframe modifications to meet the requirements of interior installation is also involved. Additional responsibilities include aircraft‑level analysis such as decompression and floor‑loading analysis. Analysis is performed using classical hand analysis and finite‑element modeling with FEMAP and Nastran. Assignments are executed under the direction of the Engineering Lead or Group Head to meet engineering, certification, and manufacturing schedules. Analysis methods and design standards are consistent with company standards and accepted methods. Additional responsibilities are outlined in the job description and as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of AutoCAD and CATIA V5 CAD tools to review engineering designs. FEA experience with FEMAP preferred. 18 months related engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related curriculum required. Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related curriculum required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential functions. 18 months related engineering experience. Experience credit considered for related graduate degrees limited to 2 years for Master’s and 4 years for PhD in applicable field. Job Description Principal duties and responsibilities: Solves typical engineering problems within assigned discipline. Provides technical assistance to engineering staff and contributes to completion of project milestones. Responsible for a complex engineering assignment, or a full project of lesser complexity. Follows established schedules while developing plans for engineering assignments. Obtains appropriate level of supervisor approvals for work accuracy and adequacy. Proficiently applies company/organization policies and procedures. Actively works to improve daily processes, ensuring all work meets customer requirements. Maintains up‑to‑date knowledge of developments and application of technical principles in assigned field. Other requirements: Technical skill level appropriate for this grade. Applies knowledge to provide solutions to moderate‑scope technical problems using judgment with defined practices. Failure to achieve results may cause program delays. Ability to convey technical concepts in written and verbal formats. Contacts primarily within organization, occasional customer contacts. Works under general supervision for routine tasks of minor complexity. With supervision/mentorship, can coordinate activities for lower‑level engineering staff.
