About Black Cat Rescue

Black Cat Rescue is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehoming cats who are often overlooked in shelters—especially black cats, seniors, and those with medical or behavioral needs. We rely on community support, storytelling, and creative outreach to connect cats with loving homes and sustain our rescue efforts.

Position Overview

Black Cat Rescue is seeking a volunteer Marketing Communication Strategist to help guide our overall messaging and content strategy across digital channels, internally and externally. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys thinking about the big picture of communications: how stories are told, how audiences engage, and how different platforms work together.

The Marketing Strategist will help oversee our content calendar and messaging across social media, email, and our website , ensuring that communications are consistent, compelling, and aligned with our mission. This role may also help launch new content channels, such as a blog or supporter platforms, while managing some internal team communications.

This is primarily a strategic and planning role , with the opportunity to collaborate with other volunteers on writing, design, and posting.

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy & Messaging

• Develop and maintain a cohesive content calendar across Facebook, Instagram, email newsletters, and the website
• Guide overall messaging and storytelling to support adoption, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and community engagement
• Ensure consistent tone, branding, and messaging across platforms

Channel Development

• Help launch and shape new content channels such as a blog, storytelling series, or other mission-driven content formats
• Advise on emerging platforms and supporter channels (e.g., Patreon or similar community-supported initiatives)

Brand & Creative Direction

• Support implementation of branding updates or new visual initiatives
• Help define and support a graphic designer volunteer role , including outlining responsibilities and onboarding guidance
• Ensure visuals and messaging remain aligned across communications

Campaign & Project Support

• Help plan messaging around key initiatives, including adoption campaigns, fundraising efforts, and events
• Advise on tabling materials, merchandise, and outreach messaging for community events

Collaboration

• Work collaboratively with board members and volunteers involved in social media, fundraising, and outreach
• Provide light guidance and feedback to ensure content aligns with the broader strategy

Ideal Skills & Experience

• Experience in marketing, communications, digital strategy, or content marketing
• Familiarity with social media strategy (especially Facebook and Instagram)
• Experience planning content calendars or campaigns
• Strong storytelling instincts and an understanding of mission-driven messaging
• Interest in animal welfare, rescue work, or nonprofit communications

Nice to Have (Not Required)

• Experience with email marketing platforms
• Knowledge of basic branding or design workflows
• Familiarity with supporter platforms like Patreon
• Experience working with volunteers or small teams
