Monitors and communicates academic progress using institutional systems and connects students to campus resources and other academic units to support academic success and effective transitions to other programs. Contributes to instructional and programmatic initiatives by teaching the pre‑major survey course, coordinating and leading new student orientation and first‑year experience, and end‑of‑term academic action for HRS pre‑majors. Participates in recruitment, student engagement efforts, and signature school events. Provides mentorship to new advisors and demonstrates leadership within the HRS Office of Academic Affairs and the broader Ohio State advising community. Engages in committee work, leads and supports complex projects, and participates in ongoing professional development, including conference presentations. Upholds the mission and values of the university, college, school, and HRS Office of Academic Affairs, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities as required. Professional certification or licensure is desired. 50% Provides and documents comprehensive, one‑on‑one academic advising to pre‑major undergraduate students on HRS degree and program options, alignment of academic pathways with career and personal goals, and all aspects of curriculum planning, including general education, prerequisite and major requirements, course selection, sequencing, minors, dual degrees, and certificates. Monitors student progress and implements timely interventions to support academic success, helping students integrate diverse interests and explore appropriate academic and career options. Advises and supports students experiencing academic, probationary, and financial concerns by providing guidance and consistently connecting them to appropriate academic, career, financial, and wellness resources. Reviews and processes student requests, including add/drop petitions, withdrawals, transfer credit, and program changes, in accordance with university policies and timelines, and identifies complex or unresolved issues for consultation with or escalation to senior staff as appropriate. Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, including high schools, regional campuses, community colleges, and educational professionals, to support prospective student engagement and effectively communicate information about Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (HRS) programs. 30% Initiates, leads, and executes two key advising operations: (1) The pre‑major academic action process, including identifying students not meeting academic standards, generating and managing action lists, and collaborating with faculty and campus partners to ensure appropriate, timely interventions. Communicates clearly with students about their academic standing, required next steps, and pathways to regain good standing, including the development and documentation of academic recovery plans. Ensures academic success resources are current, accessible, and effective by maintaining accurate referral information, aligning supports with student needs, and collaborating with partners to address gaps and improve outcomes. (2) The HRS’s new first‑year student orientation by planning and delivering programming that supports students’ transition to the university and introduction to HRS pathways. Develops and communicates clear, actionable information on academic expectations, degree requirements, and student resources, while facilitating engagement and connection to the HRS community. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus partners to ensure content is accurate, consistent, and aligned with institutional priorities. Continuously evaluates and updates orientation materials and delivery methods to ensure information is current, accessible, and effective in supporting student success. 10% Assists with instruction of the student survey course by delivering established curriculum while incorporating responsive and dynamic instructional practices to engage students and enhance learning. Adapts facilitation techniques as needed to support diverse learners, reinforce key concepts, and encourage participation. Participates in required training, maintains familiarity with course materials and learning objectives, and evaluates and grades student assignments in alignment with course standards and expectations. 5% Under regular direction, participates in and supports special and advising‑related projects as assigned, while proactively identifying and recommending new project opportunities to management. Performs administrative tasks that support advising and student services functions, as guided by the Director, including other duties as assigned. Actively engages in ongoing professional development and participates in school, college, and university‑level initiatives and opportunities. 5% Mentors and supports new advisors while providing leadership within the unit and broader advising community. Serves as a resource for complex academic advising cases by identifying and leveraging appropriate institutional supports and best practices.
