Nursing Program Specialist

This is a professional nursing position with the Florida Department of Health in Collier County (DOH-Collier County), located primarily in Naples, with required coverage in Immokalee one day per week. The Nursing Program Specialist is in Family and Personal Health Program (FPH). This position is responsible for providing specialized public health nursing services to primarily infectious disease clients, with strong emphasis on prevention, treatment, education, and follow-up care. Responsibilities also include providing nursing services and support to clients in family planning, tuberculosis, refugee health, immigration health, and adult health programs. The position involves client assessment, case management, health education, coordination of care, immunization services, laboratory testing, and collaboration with internal departments and community partners to ensure quality patient care and promote positive public health outcomes.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of community resources
• Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.
• Knowledge of standard business formats and styles for letters and business forms.
• Skill in operating a personal computer.
• Skills in Phlebotomy.
• Ability to provide preventative health care and treatment to groups.
• Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems.
• Ability to operate general office equipment.
• Ability to follow office procedures and practices.
• Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous and effective manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to understand, interpret and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Ability to prioritize individual workload.
• Ability to work indoors and occasional temperature changes.
• Ability to assist in planning and conducting a variety of training activities.
• Ability to administer prescribed medications.

Qualifications:

• REQUIRED: Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27
• Valid American Heart Association CPR certification
• A valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation.
• ICS Training (completed within 3 months of hire if not trained); 500/501 Certification and recertification (completed within 3 months of hire)
• Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
• Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
• Incumbent will have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties.
• Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish
