Workers Compensation Claims Specialist, Disposition

Job Summary This individual‑contributor position works under moderate direction to manage commercial claims with moderate to high complexity and exposure for a specific line of business. The role is responsible for investigating and resolving claims in accordance with company protocols and ensuring quality and customer service standards. Regular communication with customers and insureds is required, and the position may be dedicated to specific accounts. Responsibilities Manages an inventory of moderate to high complexity commercial claims, verifying policy coverage and developing resolution strategies within authority limits. Investigates claims to determine compensability, liability, and covered damages through gathering information, taking statements, and working with experts. Establishes and maintains working relationships with internal and external partners, suppliers, and experts to resolve claims efficiently. Authorizes claim disbursements within authority limits, negotiates settlements, and escalates as appropriate. Authors and maintains accurate reserves, estimating potential claim valuation and following claim handling protocols. Identifies subrogation, salvage opportunities, or potential fraud and refers to recovery or SIU resources when necessary. Takes care of expense management by resolving claims accurately and within cycle time targets, selecting and overseeing resources, and delivering high‑quality service. Maintains compliance with state and local regulations, staying current on commercial insurance laws, and achieving quality standards. May mentor or coach less experienced claim professionals and perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Solid working knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products, policy language, and claim practices. Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to build positive working relationships. Independent judgement, problem‑solving, and ability to make sound business decisions. Analytical mindset with investigative experience, critical thinking, and an eye for detail. Time‑management, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Negotiation ability for low to moderately complex settlements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and capacity to learn business‑related software. Ability to value diverse opinions and ideas. Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. Typically a minimum four years of relevant experience, preferably in claim handling. Candidates who have completed the CNA Claim Training Program may be considered after two years of claim handling experience. Must obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire where applicable. Professional designations (e.g., CPCU) are a plus. Compensation In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, NewYork, and Washington, the national base pay range is $54,000 to $103,000 annually. Salary determination considers experience, skills, certifications, and location.
