Engineering Technician Senior, Machinist University : The University of Akron Location : Akron, OH 44325 Job Overview Provide technical services to support the College's research and teaching efforts including, but not limited to machine instruction, safety training, maintenance of equipment, design, machining, fabrication and installation of new equipment. Provide assistance to faculty and students while promoting compliance with safety regulations. Responsibilities 40-60%: Perform design, machining, fabrication and troubleshooting procedures. Provide support in CAD/CAM. Instruct students and faculty in the appropriate use of machinery, electronic instruments and computer hardware/software. 10-15%: Recommend, maintain, install, troubleshoot and repair technical equipment. 10%: Consult with vendors and oversee purchasing activities to secure technical items, supplies and equipment for the College. 15%: Monitor environmental, health and safety regulations and coordinate with other units on campus. Additional Position Information Required Qualifications Education : Requires 18 months of education or training beyond high school. An associate degree is preferred. Licenses/Certifications/Requirements : Journeyman machinist Experience : Minimum of 4 years of experience in CAD/CAM, machining and mechanical design. Strong communication skills. Knowledge of CNC hardware and software as well as manual machining equipment. Experience in part design and fabrication using mills, lathes, drill press and sheet metal work. Windows-based machine tool and die making; troubleshooting undergraduate laboratory equipment. Leadership : Responsible for directing and monitoring the work of student and/or temporary workers. Physical and Working Conditions Physical Requirements : Moderate physical effort required involving long periods of standing, walking on rough surfaces, bending and/or stooping; periodic lifting of moderately heavy items (over 25 lbs. – 50 lbs.). Working Conditions : Routine discomforts from exposure to heat, cold, moisture, noise and air pollution. Routine/occasional exposure to light chemical substances or hazards (radiation, chemicals, diseases, heights and moving parts).
