Scion Executive Search has been retained to identify the incoming Executive Director on behalf of our client, a well-established, mission-driven nonprofit organization providing comprehensive health and social services to historically underserved communities. The organization has built a strong reputation for compassionate, accessible, and high-quality services and is entering an important period of continued growth and evolution. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity located in south Texas. POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as the organization’s chief executive, strategic leader, and principal ambassador. The Executive Director will provide organization-wide leadership across healthcare, behavioral health, social services, prevention, administration, and community-facing functions while ensuring the continued strength, sustainability, and impact of the organization. The Executive Director will partner closely with the Board and senior leadership team to advance the organization’s mission and strategic priorities, ensure excellence in service delivery, maintain strong financial stewardship, cultivate and diversify resources, strengthen organizational culture, and expand the organization’s reach and impact. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Leadership & Organizational Vision Partner with the Board and leadership team to advance the organization’s mission, strategic plan, and long-term priorities. Translate strategy into clear goals, measurable outcomes, and sustainable organizational growth. Identify opportunities to expand access, strengthen services, diversify revenue, and increase community impact. Anticipate emerging challenges and opportunities affecting the communities served and the organization’s operating environment. Balance respect for the organization’s history and existing strengths with thoughtful innovation and evolution. Staff Leadership & Organizational Culture Lead, develop, and retain a talented, mission-driven team while fostering a culture of trust, accountability, collaboration, and inclusion. Strengthen communication and collaboration across departments and ensure staff understand organizational priorities and their role in achieving them. Coach and support direct reports, establish clear expectations, and build leadership capacity throughout the organization. Promote an environment where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to deliver high-quality services. Program, Clinical & Operational Oversight Provide strategic oversight of the organization’s healthcare, behavioral health, prevention, case management, and social service programs. Ensure programs are high-quality, accessible, responsive to community needs, and aligned with organizational strategy. Partner with clinical and program leaders to support continued growth, sustainability, innovation, and expansion of services. Evaluate opportunities to expand access through new service models, strategic partnerships, and potential additional locations. Ensure effective systems, processes, and infrastructure support organizational efficiency, quality, and service delivery. Serve as a strong financial steward, partnering with finance leadership and the Board to ensure sound budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cash management. Oversee a complex funding environment that includes grants, contracts, healthcare revenue, and other restricted and unrestricted funding streams. Strengthen financial systems, controls, policies, and organizational accountability while aligning resources with strategic priorities. Evaluate investments and new initiatives through the lens of both mission impact and long-term financial sustainability. Identify opportunities to strengthen and diversify revenue. Partner with the Board and staff to strengthen individual, institutional, corporate, foundation, and government funding. Cultivate relationships with funders, donors, healthcare partners, and other stakeholders who can advance the organization’s mission. Ensure effective grant development, compliance, reporting, and stewardship. Identify new revenue opportunities and strategic partnerships that support sustainable growth and expanded community impact. Engage the Board in resource development and leverage Board members’ networks and relationships. Community Relations, Advocacy & External Affairs Serve as a visible, credible ambassador for the organization and a passionate advocate for the communities it serves. Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, healthcare systems, government agencies, funders, elected officials, and other partners. Represent the organization thoughtfully in a complex and evolving political, regulatory, and funding environment. Increase the organization’s visibility and strengthen its position as a trusted community and health equity leader. Serve as an effective spokesperson across diverse audiences and platforms. Board Partnership & Governance Develop a strong, collaborative partnership with the Board while maintaining clear distinctions between governance and management. Provide the Board with timely, transparent information to support effective oversight and strategic decision-making. Engage Board members as ambassadors, advocates, fundraisers, and community connectors. Support continued Board development, engagement, recruitment, and succession planning. Navigate differences of opinion constructively while maintaining trust, alignment, and appropriate executive authority. Risk, Compliance & External Environment Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, grant requirements, healthcare standards, contracts, and organizational policies. Work proactively with leadership and external advisors to identify and mitigate financial, operational, regulatory, reputational, and organizational risks. Maintain strong relationships with government and funding agencies while navigating changes in policy, funding, and regulatory requirements. Promote a culture of integrity, transparency, accountability, and responsible decision-making. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 7+ years of progressive senior-level leadership experience, preferably within a nonprofit, healthcare, human services, behavioral health, public health, advocacy, social services, or community-based organization. Master’s degree in a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education, executive leadership experience, and nonprofit management experience will be considered. Demonstrated success leading a complex, mission-driven organization, significant division, or comparable operation with substantial staff, programs, budgets, and external stakeholder relationships. Experience overseeing budgets in the millions and demonstrated ability to understand financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, resource allocation, and organizational performance. Experience with nonprofit finance, grants, contracts, government funding, compliance, reporting, and/or other complex funding structures. Demonstrated success in strategic planning, organizational development, program growth, implementation, evaluation, and performance management. Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing teams and create a collaborative and accountable organizational culture. Experience cultivating relationships with funders, donors, foundations, government agencies, healthcare organizations, community partners, and other external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to serve as an effective organizational spokesperson and represent an organization with credibility across diverse audiences. Experience working effectively with a Board of Directors and a clear understanding of the respective roles of governance and executive leadership. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical, and public speaking skills. Ability to navigate complex organizational, interpersonal, political, and community dynamics with diplomacy, resilience, empathy, accountability, integrity, and sound judgment. Experience leading or partnering closely with clinical operations and multidisciplinary teams is preferred. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: In addition to a competitive base salary of $180,000 to $200,000, commensurate with experience, our client also provides a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; Life Insurance; Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance; Short- and Long-Term Disability; 401(k) Retirement Plan with 4% employer match; Employee Assistant Program (EAP); training support and up to 8 hours of CEU-related PTO; and 14 paid holidays and 25 days of PTO. #J-18808-Ljbffr
