Pediatric Emergency Medicine Opportunities

Our organization is expanding its Division of Emergency Medicine and is actively seeking Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physicians to become part of our growing team. We invite physicians who are interested in pursuing careers in either academic or community medicine, or those who wish to blend both paths.

Our division boasts over 50 PEM faculty members across four locations, each with unique interests in areas such as clinical care, patient safety, medical education, quality improvement, research, and leadership. We are currently looking for PEM physicians for our Thomas Campus Hospital, Southwest Valley Free Standing ED, and East Valley Hospital . There are also opportunities for shared responsibilities across multiple campuses and dedicated nocturnist roles.

Attractive Night-Shift Compensation

All physicians working night shifts receive a substantial additional stipend. Whether these shifts are part of a hybrid schedule or a dedicated nocturnist position, physicians earn extra compensation for each night worked. Those in the nocturnist role are also eligible for a competitive hourly differential.

Thomas Campus Hospital Overview

Our Thomas Campus Hospital is a standalone children's facility that handles approximately 80,000 visits annually and is recognized as the ONLY Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in the state. It offers a full range of pediatric subspecialty services typical of a tertiary care center. PEM physicians have ample opportunities to engage in patient safety initiatives, research, quality improvement projects, medical education, and program development.

We foster an academic environment that includes an established ACGME-accredited PEM fellowship with 12 fellows, alongside a large pediatric residency program. Our dedicated POCUS faculty are planning to launch a POCUS fellowship in 2028. Faculty members hold academic positions at the University of Arizona, Creighton University, and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine , with additional opportunities available through five other medical schools in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Southwest Free-Standing ED Overview

Opened in 2023, our Southwest Free-Standing ED has quickly grown to accommodate over 55,000 visits each year. This site is designated as a Level 4 Pediatric Trauma Center and is equipped with essential resources, including an in-house pharmacist, social workers, mental health therapists, and respiratory therapists, as well as 24/7 access to CT and Ultrasound. Subspecialty consultations are available through our Thomas campus, and our dedicated critical care transport team provides on-scene support for critically ill patients and facilitates their transfer to facilities with ICU capabilities. This site also offers opportunities for supervising medical students from the University of Arizona and residents from Abrazo Emergency Medicine.

East Valley Overview

Our East Valley location is a new freestanding Women & Children's center in Gilbert, set to open in early 2027. This facility will feature a 24-bed pediatric unit, a PICU, a Level 3 NICU, a Pediatric Emergency Department, comprehensive subspecialty support, and 24/7 in-house coverage by hospitalists and intensive care providers. The ED anticipates around 16,000 visits in its first year, with projections to grow to approximately 40,000 visits by the fourth year.
