Job Description

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing nursing care activities in a Skilled Nursing and Long Term Care Facility. This role focuses on improving the continuity of care and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The DON will lead a nursing team, facilitating care coordination and quality maintenance programs.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and facilitate nursing care activities under the direction of the nursing care practice leaders.
• Assist in developing and implementing nursing policies and procedures that meet Federal and State regulatory requirements.
• Provide continuing education to ensure staff competency.
• Supervise nursing staff through hiring, training, evaluation, and assignment of duties.
• Act as a patient advocate and resource for patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff.
• Complete, evaluate, and report monthly quality data related to patient care.
• Develop and maintain departmental standards, objectives, and policy manuals.
• Organize resident care programs including interdisciplinary team planning and restorative care programs.
• Foster an environment that acknowledges and supports residents' rights.
• Enforce proper infection control practices.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN required upon hire.
• 2-4 years of experience in a supervisory position in long-term care nursing or demonstrated leadership in a relevant environment.
• Licensed as an RN in the state of practice.
• Approved CPR certification required within 90 days; other certifications may be required based on unit specifics.
