Child Care Health Program Nurse Supervisor

The Child Care Health Program (CCHP) provides health consultation, training, and education to child care and early learning educators to elevate their health and safety skills for children birth to 5 in their care. CCHP is an interdisciplinary team of Nurse, Mental Health, Nutrition, and Educator Consultants who collaborate to provide in-person services and supports to early learning educators. Additionally, the team creates and disseminates materials and resources for educators; models best health practices; and advocates for children, families, and educators to have equitable access to anti-racist opportunities for their well-being. The Child Care Health Program Nurse Supervisor supervises the nursing staff on the CCHP team. The Supervisor fosters a supportive and inclusive work environment that values collaboration, staff well-being, and shared accountability. They guide the delivery of high-quality, family-centered services that are trauma-informed, equity-driven, and responsive to the diverse experiences of the communities served. This includes promoting practices that recognize the impact of trauma, support resilience, and avoid re-traumatization for both clients and staff. The Supervisor works in partnership with community organizations, state and local agencies, healthcare providers, and internal public health teams to strengthen coordinated systems of care. This work prioritizes reducing barriers to access and improving outcomes for children and families, particularly those navigating complex medical, developmental, or social needs, and those historically underserved or disproportionately impacted by inequities. This nursing leadership position will provide clinical supervision to a team of highly skilled public health nurse consultants. The PHSS will create team values and shared vision and use these principles to guide team interactions with community partners; implement program quality improvement initiatives and practice change; and participate in strategic planning and quality improvement efforts at the division and department level.

Job Duties

  • Provide direct supervision to the nursing staff assigned to the Child Care Health Program, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, coaching, counseling, team building, and discipline as needed.
  • Guide staff and oversee service delivery at community early learning sites to ensure services are delivered effectively and in alignment with program goals, state licensing requirements, and public health standards.
  • Support staff development and well-being by providing training and guidance in reflective supervision, trauma-informed practices, and strategies to reduce secondary trauma.
  • Lead quality improvement and quality assurance activities, including documentation reviews and program monitoring, to ensure compliance with clinical standards, funding requirements, and program guidelines.
  • Make caseload and project assignments, ensuring continuity and equity; set task priority levels and develop optimal workflows.
  • Work closely with the Program Manager to monitor funding, performance measures, program data, and reporting requirements, and support continuous program improvement efforts. Provide clinical input on development of contract deliverables, targets, and budgets.
  • Analyze program data and operational processes, review policies and procedures, and prepare reports, recommendations, and documentation to support program improvement and compliance.
  • Exemplify program values and promote a shared vision for the team; use these principles to guide team interactions and decisions
  • Collaborate and maintain relationships with community partners and relevant agencies to assess community needs, strengthen partnerships, and support implementation of Child Care Health Program goals and services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or a master's degree in nursing science or a graduatelevel nursing degree of MSN, DNP or PhD from an accredited school of nursing
  • Washington State Registered Nurse License in good standing
  • Washington State Drivers' License in good standing
  • Current BLS-CPR for Healthcare Providers
  • Experience in early learning settings, maternal and child health, or pediatric care coordination, public health, or community-based health programs.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or leading staff in a healthcare, social service, or public health setting.
  • Understanding of the role of Public Health in promoting health and well-being across the lifespan and addressing the social determinants of health.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of nursing practice in early learning settings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Washington state administrative codes related to child care licensing requirements
  • Knowledge of King County's birth to three health and social service system including providers, services, and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience and a desire to work in multidisciplinary team which includes nurses, nutritionists, social workers, community health workers, and other team members.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), Career Service position with benefits. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with travel to multiple service sites. This position is exempt and not eligible for overtime. Some schedule flexibility may be required to meet operational needs.

Work Location

This position requires onsite/in-person consultation in early learning settings in Seattle and King County as well as virtual support and collaboration via remote telework as needed. Additionally, some meetings, collaborations, and resources are based at our downtown Chinook Building office, located at 401 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104. As needed, the position may be deployed to other Public Health Centers and sites throughout King County. The Child Care Health Program is field-based. In-office presence for this position will depend upon program need.
