Starting Salary: $64,000. Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week. Benefits included. What You’ll Do The Fredericksburg Police Department will administer the written and physical agility tests for the position of full-time police officer on the following dates. Saturday July 11th, 2026, at 8:00am Saturday July 25th, 2026, at 8:00am Saturday August 15th, 2026, at 8:00am Saturday September 15th, 2026, at 8:00am Registration is required. Contact Sgt. Velasco with name, address, and telephone number. If hired, attend the October 2026 Law Enforcement Basic class. Testing also forms an eligibility list for future vacancies. Day of Testing Be punctual. You will not be accepted after the scheduled testing time. Testing will be held at the Fredericksburg Police Department, 2200 Cowan Boulevard, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. Be prepared. Review materials online. Bring a valid driver’s license. Bring water and snacks. Dress appropriately. Arrive in fitness attire and athletic shoes. Expect 2 hours written testing and 4 hours physical testing. Unauthorized items. Backpacks, bags, cell phones, smart watches or other electronic devices that access the internet are not permitted. Testing Process The entire selection process includes: Written exam Physical agility and LawFit testing Verification of previous work performance and driving history Polygraph examination Psychological examination Background investigation Police ride‑along Senior panel oral review board Interview with the chief of police Medical exam LawFit fitness test includes: one repetition of maximum weight bench press, one minute maximum sit‑ups, sit & reach, maximum pull‑ups, maximum push‑ups to exhaustion, 1.5‑mile run, obstacle course in 1 minute 36 seconds or less. Minimum Qualifications 21 years of age by graduation of academy United States citizen Valid driver’s license High school diploma or GED One year of work experience involving public contact No more than two moving violations within the previous 24 months No record of convictions within the previous 60 months for DUI, eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, or vehicular manslaughter No record of a second or subsequent DUI No current or previous revocations or suspension of license within the previous 60 months due to a moving violation Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty or no contest to a Class 1 or 2 misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or any offense that would be a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petty larceny under 18.2‑96, or any offense involving moral turpitude that would be a misdemeanor Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty or no contest to any misdemeanor sex offense in the Commonwealth of Virginia, another state, or the United States, including sexual battery under 18.2‑67.4 or consensual sexual intercourse with a minor 15 or older under clause (ii) of 18.2‑371 Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty or no contest to domestic assault under 18.2‑57.2, or any offense that would be domestic assault under the laws of another state or the United States Undergo a background investigation including fingerprint‑based criminal history records inquiries to both the CCRE and FBI Undergo a physical examination, subsequent to a conditional offer of employment Not have a positive result on a pre‑employment drug screening Persons testing should be interested in a full‑time position involving general police work in protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances in the City of Fredericksburg and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
