English Teacher [2026-27 school year]

Newark Academy is accepting applications for a potential position in the English Department, adding to a dedicated and dynamic faculty. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching English, a passion for literature, writing, and media, and a demonstrated capacity to embrace student-centered, skills-focused, and culturally competent practices. In this position, you would have the opportunity to teach skills such as textual analysis, written and verbal communication, and critical thinking and argumentation to students who are highly engaged and genuinely enjoy their teachers. Positive student/faculty relationships are instrumental in inspiring our students to not only succeed in the English classroom but also write for multiple school publications and outside venues. Ideal candidates will be interested in embracing the wider school community through their involvement in clubs, activities, and/or athletics. Desired Qualifications Experience teaching English in middle school, upper school, or higher educational settings. Professionals in industry or related fields or with non-traditional paths to education are also encouraged to apply. Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred Experience working with and supporting a diverse community of students, parents, and colleagues Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) Experience working in independent schools is preferred but not required Candidates with experience in the International Baccalaureate (IB) are especially encouraged to apply Responsibilities Create a positive, student-centered environment and work collegially with peers Prepare lessons to deliver to assigned classes, generally four sections Collaborate with colleagues to design and revise curriculum to create a consistent course experience across sections Meet school guidelines regarding grading, recordkeeping, and use of the learning management system to post timely information about classes Participate in school-wide activities such as workshops, special events, and professional meetings Engage in the life of Newark Academy Salary Salary range $65,000 - $85,000. Salary is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to education and experience.
