Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience. Position Summary The Office for the Vice President for Instruction (OVPI) seeks a detail-oriented, collaborative assistant building manager for the Science Learning Center at the University of Georgia. The Science Learning Center is a unique space that houses instructional laboratories for introductory STEM students along with scale‑up classrooms and two large auditoria. This position reports to the Building Manager and has responsibility for working closely with the Building Manager in planning, coordinating and supervising the facilities management program for the Science Learning Center. The individual in this position will also be asked to with facilities related issues at two other Office of Instruction buildings on south campus, Cedar Street Building A which houses 19 classrooms and Building #1050. This includes providing safety of building personnel and patrons, coordination with Facilities Management concerning facilities operations and maintenance issues, environmental/safety regulation compliance including organization of emergency plans and operations, and management of special projects as they arise. Work involves assisting in developing appropriate policies and programs, monitoring the building and grounds, responding to emergency situations, managing the procurement and inventory of supplies and equipment, and scheduling and monitoring a sophisticated intrusion and fire alarm system. Assignments are carried out under established policies and procedures, and the employee must exercise quick, independent, and sound judgment and display initiative in applying resolution to emergency situations that arise. The Assistant Building Manager is expected to work at hours as needed and to be recallable for duty in 30 minutes to respond to after‑hour emergencies or security issues. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Knowledge of building operations, maintenance and security procedures; Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patrons, staff; Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate knowledge of desktop and laptop computing is preferred. Working knowledge using software packages for office use, preferably Word and Excel for Windows; Experience using software and maintaining hardware for building access control and management. Physical Demands Sitting for long periods of time at a computer terminal is required. Position also entails lifting boxes weighing approximately 40 pounds each. Duties/Responsibilities Assist in managing building operations (SLC, Cedar A south wing, Building #1050) and support by supervising and resolving problems concerning facility usage, operations, equipment malfunction, etc. (40%) Assist in the management of the emergency preparedness program by providing on‑site leadership for response to emergency situations, monitoring and responding to the alarm systems, developing detailed emergency procedures for the building, training other building staff to provide basic assistance, and handling related issues and problems according to departmental and university safety and security policies. (30%) Coordinates the daily building schedule (SLC, Cedar A south wing, Building #1050) and usage by monitoring and programming the security system; coordinates building activities and events with other departments and external clients. (15%) Assist in the management of appropriate procurement for the assigned spaces (both income and expenditures) by researching purchases, maintaining budget paperwork, tracking purchases, etc. (10%) Assist in maintaining fire and security systems in the SLC, Cedar A south wing, Building #1050.
