Medical Assistant

General Responsibilities The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing the day-to-day administrative needs of the Nursing Department, while also working with the program administrative team to ensure that all administrative coverage is provided. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing phone coverage, filing, typing, arranging routine appointments, data input, organizing systems, and providing customer service to children and families of the program. This position supports Melmark New England’s mission to serve children, adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury, neurological diseases and disorders, comorbid mental health disorders and severe challenging behaviors. It is required that employees demonstrate their understanding of that service mission through their work behavior and commitment to the students and the staff who are directly involved in the delivery of that service. All staff are expected to adhere to Melmark’s Code of Conduct and Standards of Professionalism included in the Employee Handbook. It is the responsibility of each staff member to read and familiarize themselves with the contents of the Employee Handbook and ask questions relative to the application of these standards in the workplace if unclear to the employee.

Basic Qualifications

• Education/Training: High School Diploma or G.E.D., college background preferred.
• Certifications/Licensure: Medical Assistant Certification is preferred; employee will be required to obtain this certification if he/she does not have it when hired. A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Must meet Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check requirements. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, and Melmark’s Orientation Program and New Hire Onsite training program.
• Skill(s): Requires computer training, exceptional organizational skills and knowledge of Residential Services program.
• Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of office management experience.

Interrelationships: Interacts with all Melmark New England departments to provide smooth transition between day and residential needs of Melmark New England individuals.

$24-$26 hourly rate based on relevant work experience.
