About the Role
We are seeking experienced talent to join our Tax Department. This role will serve as a key resource for the firm's growing tax provision and income tax accounting practice. This role offers an opportunity to work with a variety of clients across industries, and mentor staff while developing expertise. Individuals at this level are CPAs and have typically had a minimum of seven+ years' experience and have exhibited technical proficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Ability to lead the preparation and/review of complex C Corporation, tax returns, including multistate and consolidated filings; provide strategic planning around state nexus, apportionment, and entity structuring
- Serve as a technical resource on income tax accounting matters, advising clients and internal teams on ASC 740 considerations, tax provision processes, and related financial reporting requirements
- Manage flow-through entity (S Corporation and partnership) compliance and related tax planning, including basis calculations, distribution planning, and ownership transitions
- Oversee individual (1040) tax compliance and planning
- Provide tax guidance, tax accounting consultation, and compliance support on business transactions, including stock and asset acquisitions, mergers, restructurings, and succession planning for closely held and family-owned businesses
- Lead the preparation, review, and oversight of quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740, including current and deferred tax calculations, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions, effective tax rate analyses, and related financial statement disclosures
- Deliver estate, trust, and gift tax planning and compliance services, including wealth transfer strategies, trust structuring, and Form 706/709 filings
- Assist tax-exempt organizations with compliance and strategic planning, including the preparation and review of Form 990, 990-PF, and related filings
- Take on a more significant role in managing, communicating, and servicing of their assigned clients
- Prepare client billings fairly, accurately, and promptly
- Assist in firm administrative functions as assigned by the partners
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical expertise in corporate taxation and income tax accounting, including ASC 740
- Experience preparing and reviewing income tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, and tax related financial statement disclosures
- Ability to communicate complex tax and financial information clearly and concisely to clients and colleagues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with a focus on quality and detail
- Strong tax research capabilities and the ability to apply technical guidance to complex client situations
- Ability to identify and solve problems, recommend client specific and firm wide solutions, and lead implementation
- Team oriented mindset with the ability to build and maintain long term relationships internally and externally
- Industry expertise and experience contributing to firm wide industry initiatives and thought leadership
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent certification
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in public accounting
- Proficiency with tax preparation and research software, Microsoft Office Suite, and remote communication platforms (e.g. Teams, Zoom)
- Familiarity with U.S. tax code, GAAP, and ASC 740
- In-person work required at the MH office with remote work flexibility subject to approval

Compensation
At M|H, compensation is designed to reflect an individual's experience, qualifications, and market conditions within their role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns) for this position takes multiple factors into account, including education, relevant skills, work experience, certifications, and location. As a result, the final offer for the selected candidate(s) may fall anywhere within the stated range.
This position is bonus eligible.
