Process Design Engineer III/Senior Process Design Engineer OVERVIEW Marathon Petroleum Company's Illinois Refining Division in Robinson, IL is seeking a Process Design Engineer III/Senior Process Design Engineer. This position's primary function is to contribute to refinery/organizational process optimization and project development. This includes identifying opportunities and developing projects to increase throughput, enhance yields, improve reliability, and optimize energy or water use in process units. This position reports to the Process Optimization & Growth Manager. Relocation is approved for this position. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Contributes to refinery/organizational long-term strategy development and identifies opportunities to increase throughput, enhance yields, improve reliability and optimize energy and water use in process units. Develops process designs for new projects and unit modifications, including PFDs, P&IDs, and heat/material balances. Performs process simulations and calculations to support equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, and energy optimization as well as lead economic analysis and establish project rate of return. Collaborates with project engineers, operations, and external vendors to ensure alignment of design with operational needs. Prepares process design packages and support HAZOPs, LOPA studies, and other safety reviews. Provides technical leadership during project execution, including design reviews, construction support, and commissioning. Stays current with industry standards and best practices to ensure high-quality, cost-effective designs. Serves as a mentor for less experienced engineers. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum (Required) Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering Four (4) years of process engineering experience within refining or heavy industry Valid driver's license Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field Preferred Qualifications: Six (6) years of process engineering experience Two (2) years of project or process design experience SKILLS Microsoft Office suite including Excel Petrosim or similar process modelling such as MySep KG Tower PAY AND BENEFITS Retirement: 401k with a company match up to 7% Pension: Company funded pension plan up to 11% Annual Bonus: Eligible for a company sponsored annual bonus Paid Parental Leave Educational Reimbursement For full benefits details visit mympcbenefits.com SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS Full In-Office: 5 days in the office per week, 8 hours per day.
