Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

The Montana State Hospital Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential support to residents by assisting with daily living activities, basic hygiene, and health-related tasks. This role requires effective communication, accurate observation and reporting, and the ability to work cooperatively in a mental health care environment. The CNA is responsible for helping residents maintain their dignity and well-being while supporting clinical staff in emergency and routine care situations. Responsibilities:

• Assist residents with daily living activities including bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, and personal care.
• Take and record vital signs and collect specimens as needed.
• Support residents during transport to appointments and assist as required.
• Observe and accurately report changes in resident condition to nursing staff.
• Maintain constructive and cooperative relationships with residents and team members.
• Assist in emergency situations as directed by clinical staff.

• Valid Montana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a psychiatric facility.
• Minimum of 1 year of travel contract experience.
• Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions both orally and in writing.
• Ability to make accurate observations and maintain proper documentation.

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• Experience in geriatric care, hospice, or emergency/urgent care settings.
• Experience working in adult psychiatric facilities.

• Must be highly skilled in de-escalation techniques.
• Flexibility to work holidays and varied shifts as required by the facility.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced mental health hospital environment.
• Travel experience and willingness to accept open shift availability and float pool assignments.

• Shift typically from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
• Shift preferences and time off requests to be coordinated with facility scheduling.
• Flexibility required to work assigned shifts including holidays and float pool coverage.
