We are seeking a highly motivated Deputy Prosecuting Attorney (DPA) to join the Criminal Division in Tacoma, Washington. The successful candidate will represent the State of Washington in prosecuting misdemeanor and felony offenses and will have the opportunity to handle cases across Misdemeanor, Superior, Juvenile, and Appellate Courts. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney passionate about criminal law, courtroom advocacy, and public service, looking to grow within a dynamic legal environment.
Responsibilities
- Prosecute misdemeanor and felony criminal offenses on behalf of the State of Washington.
- Represent the State in Misdemeanor, Superior, Juvenile, and Appellate Courts.
- Conduct criminal trials, hearings, arraignments, and other courtroom proceedings.
- Perform legal research and prepare motions, briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents.
- Analyze evidence, case law, and applicable statutes.
- Develop and present effective litigation strategies.
- Work with law enforcement, witnesses, victims, court personnel, and other legal professionals.
- Effectively advocate for the State in court proceedings.
- Manage multiple cases and meet applicable deadlines.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, ethics, and legal practice.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Current license to practice law in the State of Washington.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent oral advocacy and courtroom communication skills.
- Ability to effectively litigate criminal cases.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and case-management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced legal environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience prosecuting criminal cases.
- Experience handling felony and misdemeanor matters.
- Prior trial or courtroom litigation experience.
- Experience appearing before Superior, District, Juvenile, or Appellate Courts.
- Strong knowledge of Washington criminal law and court procedures.
- Experience working with law enforcement agencies and criminal justice professionals.
