Instrument Assembly Technician

Pay Range: $20.50hr - $25.50hr


Job Overview:


The candidate performs a wide variety of assigned tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and mechanical assemblies and subassemblies such as electromechanical modules, boards, panels, drawers, frames, and cables. The successful candidate determines and follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering, cable harnessing, and fitting on assembly units. The role involves working from diagrams and drawings, making initial layouts, and using hand and power tools, jigs, and saws. The candidate conducts quality inspections on the processing line in accordance with quality specifications and disassembles, modifies, reworks, reassembles, and tests experimental or prototype assemblies according to specifications. The candidate makes setups and adjustments holding tolerances to blueprint specifications while identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving complex issues associated with instrument assembly operations.


Responsibilities and Duties:


The candidate must be able to build, integrate, and understand the entire assembly process and requirements for any instrument in the production area.

• Responsible for assembling multiple product lines including integration of sub-assemblies into the instrument.
• Provide overall device history record recording and reporting for serial numbers and tools.
• Provide basic component testing for pre-assemblies and modules of simple instruments.
• Identify defects and recommend design and process improvements.
• Provide expertise in reading and understanding drawings, work instructions, and overall workmanship standards.
• Provide training to associates as needed including a broad variety of mechanical and basic testing activities.
• Execute on basic test instructions as needed including analyzing results and data to determine pass/fail or next steps.
• Conduct routine and moderately complex troubleshooting and repair work.
• Complete any related production activities in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and in accordance with the organization's expectations for Safety and Quality.
• Work or interface with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Planning and Purchasing as needed.
• Complete work activity in accordance to the organization's defined specifications, operating procedures, and company policies.
• Perform standard material handling functions for instrument raw materials and sub-assemblies.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment through execution of all housekeeping responsibilities including cleaning, sweeping, and organizing.
• Demonstrate the ability to follow established procedures according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Follow all organization housekeeping policies and procedures.
• Follow all organization safety policies and procedures.
• Work overtime as required to meet business requirements.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:


High school degree or GED required with 3 years of manufacturing experience or an AA technical degree with 1 year of experience. Experience in a regulated environment is required.

• Strong ability and commitment to Continuous Improvement, including the ability to initiate, implement, and provide ongoing support for all aspects of Lean Manufacturing philosophies.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical tools including torque drivers, graphics, and bits.
• Highly proficient at reading drawings, interpreting and measuring dimensions, and requirements.
• Ability to manage time across multiple production orders and processes within allotted time standards.
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting to reach common goals.
• Ability to understand and work within specified Quality procedures.
• Proven ability to complete tasks in support of achieving goals and improved performance.
• Ability to effectively manage frequent assignment changes.

Proficient/Working Skills:


The candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to analyze and evaluate charts, follow simple diagrams, and perform basic arithmetic. Basic proficiency with PCs and the use of a Windows environment is required. The candidate must use independent judgment to plan, perform, make decisions, troubleshoot, and problem solve in areas of set up, operations, and processes.
