The purpose of this position is to work in a dual capacity that provides chemical health education and therapeutic interventions to assist in patient’s recovery related to chemical health while also providing one-on-one and group therapy specifically designed for individuals with an identified mental health diagnosis.

Mental Health Professional Specific:
- Completes mental health diagnostic assessments.
- Completes with patient all intake, admission, discharge and aftercare paperwork.
- Completes with patient all required documentation to support clinic standards, which may include: insurance documentation, release of information, etc.
- Completes the patient psychosocial and an individual treatment plan within applicable laws and standards.
- Identifies and assesses symptoms related to the treatment of addiction that results in clear and prompt interventions supportive of the patient.
- Adheres to specific professional licensing standards and code of ethics.
- Provides adult, group, and/or family counseling in a manner that respects each patent’s individual characteristics, needs, and preferences.
- Identifies and assesses symptoms related to the treatment of mental health diagnosis(es) that results in clear and prompt interventions supportive of the patient.
- Utilizes knowledge of mental health diagnostic methods and principles to assess patient status and acute needs.
- Provides crisis intervention, when needed, based on proven and researched intervention approaches.
- Develops multiple external recovery resources through collaboration with fellow counselors, investigation and awareness of external resources, and development of relationships with external resource providers that benefit each patient.
- Provides culturally competent treatment in a manner that reflects knowledge of a range of treatment interventions and methods, and demonstrates that knowledge through documentation of those interventions and methods in the record of the patient.
- Serves as an advocate for all patients in receiving services within the organization and outside the organization, by supporting the rights of patients and communicating information.
- Refers patients to community mental health and substance abuse agencies as part of a comprehensive referral process to external resources and supports.
- Utilizes behavioral contracts as one of a variety of therapeutic methods to assist patients with meeting the requirements of the program, when such an approach will benefit an individual patient’s recovery process.
- Will not admit, transfer, or discharge patients, but may be directed to follow through with the process of implementation of the above by the director or designee.

- Awareness of cultural diversity and demonstration of sensitivity to various cultural norms and values.
- Assists patients in maintaining county or 3rd party payer mechanisms and for communicating clinical criteria to payers for appropriate services.
- Obtain authorization for funding.
- Will not admit, transfer, or discharge patients, but may be directed to follow through with the process of implementation of the above by the director or designee.
- Attend all staff in services and meetings.
- Provide treatment coordination services, including but not limited to, coordination with others involved in the client's treatment and recovery, and provision of community resources and connections to clients.
- Other duties as assigned.
Licensure / Certifications:
- The individual must have current Minnesota State Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor meeting all requirements of Minnesota Statue 148F.
- Current Minnesota State Licensure as a Current state licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Psychologist (LP),
- License Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Or -
- Licensed Professional Counselor under supervision contract.
- Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist under supervision contract.
- Licensed Social Worker under supervision contract.
- Licensed Graduate Social Worker under supervision contract.
- Individual under supervision contract with completed Master’s Degree applying for direct licensure of LPCC, LMFT, LICSW or LP.
- Must know and understand all rules, regulations, and requirements of the assigned program.
- Must document 12 hours of training in co-occurring mental health problems and chemical abuse of dependency that includes competencies related to philosophy, screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, documentation, programming, medication, collaboration, mental health consultation, discharge planning.
- Must document 8 hours of ongoing training in co-occurring mental health problems and chemical abuse of dependency that includes the above competencies
- Minimum 1 year experience in a chemical dependency facility or related and 2-3 years related experience required, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Strong verbal skills and ability to communicate abstract concepts in a simple format.
- Ability to communicate with a variety of people from diverse cultures, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds.
- Strong knowledge of the 12 core functions.
- Flexibility to meet a variety of changing priorities.
- Computer skills to draft emails, memos, and reporting.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a chemical dependency facility or related and 2-3 years related experience required, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. PRE-
