Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a highly trained professional who collaborates with surgeons and the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures. This role requires an extensive understanding of perioperative nursing, clinical practices in the operating room, and the ability to perform with optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon during operations, ensuring patient safety and achieving the best possible outcomes.
• Perform duties of OR staff RN when not assigned as RNFA.
• Utilize knowledge, skills, and judgment specific to operating room practices.
• Engage in continuous collaboration with the surgical and healthcare teams throughout the perioperative experience.
• Participate in both scrubbing and circulating duties as required.

Qualifications

• Active Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in New York.
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant program.
• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification is required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the operating room setting, preferably in a Level 1 trauma environment.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in robotic surgery, specifically in:
• Robotic Urology
• Robotic GYN
• Robotic Colorectal
• Robotic Surgical Oncology (Whipples, gastrectomies, hernias)
• Robotic Thoracic
• Robotic General Surgery (gall bladder, appendectomies)
• Proficiency in perioperative nursing practice with scrubbing and circulating experience.

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.

Work Schedule

This position offers full-time hours with schedules typically falling within Monday to Friday day shifts. There are no weekend or holiday shifts, but evening call responsibilities may be required as per unit needs.
