Utility Billing Clerk

JOB SUMMARY

As a Utility Billing Clerk for the City of Blue Springs, you will perform general customer service and cashier duties pertaining to Utility payments.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Handles processes involved in payments and collections for water and sewer accounts.

• Reviews cash receipts, vouchers, invoices, online bill payment processing, credit card, customer service orders, customer information, and other documents for accuracy.

• Post online incoming electronic payments and reports.

• Balances all cash received and prepares deposits on a daily basis.

• Establishes and closes accounts.

• Receives and resolves customer inquiries and complaints.

• This position may perform voter registration duties.

• Performs other tasks as assigned by Utility Billing Supervisor.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

6 months of general office experience is preferred. Experience in a public-facing position that required excellent communication skills is preferred.

Data entry, cash handling, and strong customer service skills are required for this role.

SKILLS, COMPETENCIES & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Excellent organizational and time management skills, accurate 10 key abilities. Excellent customer service skills both in person and over the phone. Knowledge of principles and techniques of basic bookkeeping, general computer skills, Microsoft Outlook, and Windows-based programs.

This position requires the ability to handle difficult customers., the ability to enter financial and other data accurately; the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; the ability to understand and carry out general oral and written instructions; knowledge of bookkeeping principles and methods.

Physical Requirements - Must be able to sit for prolonged periods; must be able to listen to normal conversation; must be able to walk occasionally, and use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; must be able to reach with hands and arms; must be able to have vision sufficient to see close up and have the ability to adjust focus; and, must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds and transport it 15 feet.
