Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students with complex needs in a self-contained program near Joliet, IL. With two openings available to backfill roles, you'll have a chance to make a tangible impact as part of a dedicated school team. The assignment runs from August 24th through June 3rd for the 2026/2027 school year, offering you a meaningful, consistent schedule and daily engagement with students who benefit from compassionate, skilled support.
Paraprofessionals will enjoy a 7.25-hour workday, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, working alongside educators to provide comprehensive assistance in classrooms serving students with autism, medical complexities, challenging behaviors, and those requiring support for basic needs such as toileting.
Key Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in an educational or therapeutic setting, especially with students with autism and significant medical or behavioral needs
- Understanding of toileting protocols and comfort assisting with personal care
- Ability to remain patient, flexible, and proactive in a dynamic self-contained classroom environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for supporting teachers and interacting with students
- Reliability and commitment to the full school year assignment
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist lead teachers in daily instructional activities and behavior management
- Support students with personal care needs, including toileting and mobility
- Help implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention strategies
- Foster a positive and safe learning environment through attentive, respectful support
- Document observations and assist with classroom organization
