This is a hands-on, independent position responsible for overseeing workplace safety, regulatory compliance, environmental requirements, employee safety programs, training, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The EHS Manager will serve as the primary safety resource for the organization and will work closely with plant leadership, supervisors, employees, Human Resources, and other departments to maintain a safe, compliant, and professional workplace.
This position supports multiple company locations, including manufacturing, foundry, warehouse, and related operations. The primary location is Evansville, Wisconsin, with regular travel to other Wisconsin facilities as needed. Occasional travel to other company locations may be required, generally no more than once per month and typically for only a few days at a time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve company-wide environmental, health, and safety programs, policies, procedures, and practices.
Serve as the primary EHS resource for company facilities and provide guidance to leadership, supervisors, and employees regarding workplace safety and regulatory requirements.
Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, DNR, and other federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Maintain required safety and environmental records, documentation, permits, reports, inspections, and regulatory filings.
Conduct routine facility and workplace inspections, safety audits, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses to identify potential risks and recommend corrective actions.
Support environmental compliance associated with foundry and manufacturing operations, including applicable air emissions, waste management, hazardous materials, chemical management, stormwater, spill prevention, and other environmental requirements.
Manage required OSHA recordkeeping, including injury and illness records and applicable reporting requirements.
Lead and coordinate investigations of workplace injuries, incidents, near misses, property damage, and other safety-related events. Identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and follow through to ensure appropriate measures are implemented.
Track safety trends, incidents, corrective actions, and key EHS metrics and communicate relevant findings to leadership.
Develop and conduct safety training, orientation, refresher training, toolbox talks, and other required or appropriate employee safety education.
Ensure employees receive appropriate training related to PPE, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, emergency response, powered industrial trucks, machine safety, ergonomics, confined spaces, and other applicable workplace hazards.
Partner with operational leadership and other appropriate departments regarding safety expectations, employee safety concerns, work restrictions, return-to-work considerations, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
Provide guidance regarding situations involving suspected impairment, drug or alcohol concerns, reasonable suspicion, testing procedures, and other fitness-for-duty or workplace safety concerns in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
Assist leadership with determining appropriate immediate safety actions when an employee's behavior, condition, or actions may create a risk to themselves or others.
Support consistent documentation and communication related to safety violations and work with appropriate leadership when safety-related corrective action or discipline may be necessary.
Promote a workplace culture in which employees and supervisors understand their responsibility for safety and feel comfortable reporting hazards, injuries, near misses, and other concerns.
Develop and maintain emergency preparedness and response procedures, including evacuation plans and coordination of required drills.
Coordinate with workers’ compensation resources, occupational health providers, insurance representatives, consultants, regulatory agencies, and other outside partners as appropriate.
Participate in safety committees and leadership discussions and provide recommendations regarding workplace hazards, equipment, processes, and operational changes.
Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices affecting manufacturing and foundry environments and communicate necessary changes to leadership.
Travel between company facilities as necessary to provide EHS support and maintain consistent safety expectations across locations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
