Clinical Support Tech I (Per Diem) - Acute Neurosurgery and ENT Care

Overview Description: Looking for a highly engaged, team-oriented candidate to join our dynamic culture. Nursing Assistant I + Clerical (Clinical Support Tech I) for the Acute Neurosurgery and ENT Care Unit at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. The unit is an 18-bed post-operative and neuro/ENT care unit with a variety of surgical presentations. The position offers opportunities to strengthen clinical and critical thinking skills including airway management, suctioning, drains, feeding tubes, neurological and stroke assessment, and more. This is a per diem/at-will role with rotating day and night shifts, including weekends and holidays, requiring a minimum of 24 hours per month. Responsibilities Assists physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procures equipment and supplies. Critically reviews patient care documentation; notes significant changes in condition and reports immediately to a registered nurse or physician. Performs clerical tasks (organizing workload, greeting visitors, researching information, reviewing and revising orders, answering calls, transcribing orders, maintaining medical records) and conducts quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies; supports PI audits and data entry. Provides clinical support including cleaning work areas, maintaining equipment, troubleshooting software/hardware, changing linens, checking and stocking supplies, transporting patients/supplies/specimens, and orienting new staff and students. Delivers direct patient care as outlined in the plan of care (bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation assistance); measures vital signs and records height/weight; may perform specimen collection, wound care, catheter care, glucose checks, ROM exercises, and postural drainage. Reinforces routine patient teaching and documents understanding; distributes patient education materials as requested. Qualifications Education: High School diploma or GED. Liberal licensure/certification: Listed as Nurse Aide I in the North Carolina Registry; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Experience: Prior experience not required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Fluent in verbal and written English; ability to develop computer skills.
