Addiction Physician - Inpatient Detox

About the Company Advanced Recovery Systems (ARS) is a physician‑led organization dedicated to providing evidence‑based treatment for individuals struggling with substance use and mental health disorders. Founded in 2013, ARS has grown into a nationally recognized network of behavioral healthcare facilities, including specialized services for veterans and first responders. The Recovery Village Salem Drug and Alcohol Rehab, located in Salem, Oregon, is an accredited adult rehab facility that provides evidence‑based care for patients facing substance use disorders and mental health challenges. Position Overview The Addiction Physician serves as the Medical Director, overseeing the facility’s medical services, medical staff, dietitians, and physician services coordinator. Administrative duties are a small portion of the role; the majority of time is spent performing clinical duties as a psychiatrist or addiction medicine physician, implementing ARS’s philosophy, and ensuring high‑quality medical care for patients. Responsibilities Provide excellent medical care in accordance with ARS philosophy, including detoxification protocols, medication assessment, withdrawal management, and medication‑assisted therapy. Flourish knowledge of ASAM criteria and document clinical decision‑making accordingly. Assist the Chief Medical Officer, Associate CMP, and Executive Director in developing and maintaining written objectives, policies, procedures, an organizational plan, and a quality assurance program for medical services. Review and update all medical policies and procedures annually; share documentation with medical staff, nursing services, and other appropriate personnel. Plan and budget for medical services in collaboration with the CMO, Executive Director, and governing authority. Support medical staff success with departmental metrics such as Expense Management, Compliance Quantity, Compliance Quality, Completion %, and Outcomes/Readmission rates. Maintain proficiency with the electronic health record, ensuring documentation complies with company policies, state regulations, Joint Commission standards, and Medical Needs Criteria. Generate required EHR documentation: Psychiatric Evaluation, Admission History and Physical Evaluation/ CSSRS/ Pain Assessment, Medical Progress Notes, Medical Discharge Summary, Medication and ancillary orders, Patient Allergies, Diagnosis/updates, Lab Data, and Substance Use Disorder screening. Screen for pain and devise individualized treatment strategies that consider clinical judgment and potential for dependency. Review off‑site physical examination reports and medical screening results for pre‑admissions or other medical concerns, ensuring medical needs are addressed in the treatment plan. Develop and implement Plans for Performance Improvement as needed. Communicate on‑call responsibilities, provide contact and backup numbers, and be responsive within one hour of the facility when on call. Collaborate with Corporate Human Resources to recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new employees efficiently. Maintain daily staffing patterns and on‑call schedules within budgetary constraints. Evaluate medical staff competency initially and annually based on performance standards. Collaborate with attending physicians weekly to review patient care and evaluate treatment effectiveness. Audit all charts in their entirety prior to insurance audits. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduated from an accredited medical school. Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory position. Experience in addiction medicine. Familiarity with JCAHO, ASAM Criteria, and other healthcare standards. Excellent communication skills and ability to relate to all levels of facility staff. Self‑motivated, confident, and able to apply Continuous Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Team philosophy. Licensed to practice medicine as an MD or DO in the appropriate state. Board certification in Primary Specialty required; ABPM Addiction Medicine or AOA Board Certification in Addiction Medicine required if not a psychiatrist. DEA registration to prescribe controlled medications and training in Buprenorphine prescribing. Benefits Scheduling: Flexible, onsite required with some on‑call duties. Pay: Competitive and negotiable salary starting at $350,000 plus annual bonus and monthly incentives. CME: $5,000 per year reimbursement. Malpractice: Free liability protection; the PLI policy also covers you if you leave the company during your employment. Paid Time Off: 6 weeks of paid time off per year.
