Registered Nurse Quality Coordinator

Job Summary and Qualifications
The Transplant Quality Coordinator (TQC) is responsible for managing the process for continuous regulatory and accreditation compliance, quality, and patient safety for the Transplant Program and associated clinical areas. Serves as advisor and subject matter expert in The Joint Commission, UNOS, CMS and other regulatory agency standards. Plans, administers, and implements processes to support ongoing compliance and survey readiness. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in St. David’s North Austin Medical Center’s Mission, Vision and Values. Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.
What you will do in this role:
· Collaborate with medical staff and operational leadership to facilitate evidence-based quality and patient safety initiatives; engage associates at all levels in continuous pursuit of improvement opportunities.
· Manage, coordinate, and provide oversight of key functions and processes for the systematic, coordinated, and continuous improvement of patient care delivery.
· Ensure quality and performance improvement initiatives are aligned with regulatory standards and healthcare best practices.
· Establish and maintain efficient and reliable mechanisms for monitoring, analysis, and reporting of quality outcomes and performance improvement initiatives.
· Ensure the integration of aggregate data into performance improvement planning and problem resolution.
· Coordinate and facilitate the use of statistical process tools and process improvement methodologies for continuous improvement in patient care and outcomes.
· Evaluate the relationship of quality and performance improvement initiatives with patient outcomes to determine if desired results have been achieved or sustained.
· Compare performance data and outcomes with authoritative external sources and benchmarks.
· Effectively communicate information from measurement and improvement activities to the appropriate constituents.
· Prioritize improvement efforts based on alignment of clinical performance with patient safety and pro-active reduction of risk
· Lead and participate in cross-functional groups and/or committees to achieve quality, regulatory, and accreditation goals and objectives
· Research and incorporate best practice methodology to drive change and performance improvement initiatives
· Coordinate with hospital clinical risk management to identify adverse events, communicate the events to the transplant program leadership and staff, and support the root cause analysis and improvement/remediation related to these events.
· Responsible for the coordination of accreditation and regulatory standards for the transplant program.
· Plan and implement programs to assess state of readiness for surveys, focusing upon continual preparation
· Establish and implement processes to support ongoing compliance and constant survey readiness.
· Collaborate with leadership and team members to meet accreditation and compliance goals and objectives.
· Coordinate survey visits/activities and post-survey follow-up activities.
· Prepare and coordinate a timely response to regulatory agencies on corrective action plans, inquiries, and other requested information.
· Guide and coordinate policy/practice review to ensure alignment with regulatory and accrediting standards, best practices, and evidence-based practice.
· Measure internal compliance through data collection, tracking/trending, analysis, and monitoring.
· Present findings and recommendations for performance improvement.
· Continually review and monitor Joint Commission, CMS and UNOS data and changes in interpretations; communicates new or modified regulatory standards as appropriate; makes recommendations to ensure compliance.
· Serve as the subject matter expert and resource for CMS and Joint Commission accreditation standards and accreditation requirements specific to transplant programs.
· Coordinate data submission to various regulatory agencies as required.
· Develop, deliver and coordinate training, education and communications for team members to comply with regulatory and accreditation standards.
· Participate as a team leader or member in system or facility performance improvement/regulatory readiness or quality teams. Build mutual trust and encourage respect and cooperation among team members to support movement from current state of practice to desired state of practice, address and mutually resolve issues.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· General understanding of the renal transplant process as well as alternative therapies for end-stage renal disease. A particular competence in the renal transplant evaluation process for both recipients and donors.
· Knowledge of transplantation, quality metrics, and medical ethics.
· Ability to comply with documentation standards in a timely fashion.
· Demonstrate resourcefulness, effective written and oral communication, diplomacy, and organizational and analytic skills.
· Self-directed, assertive and creative in problem solving, systems planning analytics knowledge.
· Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
· Excellent computer and communication skills.
· Sound working knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures related to quality improvement.
Qualifications you will need:
- Minimum of three years relevant clinical experience (Med/Surg, Neuro, ICU and ED experience) - required
- One year in Quality background in a hospital or physician practice setting – preferred
- Transplant experience in a transplant setting or dialysis center -preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – required
- Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration - preferred
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas. If Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire

St. David’s North Austin Medical Center , part of St. David’s HealthCare, is a full-service medical center providing comprehensive medical care at two locations – St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and St. David’s Surgical Hospital . St. David’s North Austin Medical Center is a 460+ bed, multi-specialty, acute care hospital. It provides advanced women’s health services, including maternity and newborn care with Level I, II, and III neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at the nearby St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas . The hospital also offers minimally invasive gynecological surgery and comprehensive breast imaging through Solis Mammography, which is located on-site. Other services include a 24-hour emergency department, pediatric emergency care, and intensive care at St. David’s Children’s Hospital . The hospital also features the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery , bariatric (weight loss) surgery, a Heart and Vascular Center, neurology and neurosurgery, a kidney transplant program, a Level IV Epilepsy Center, as well as inpatient and outpatient surgery and acute rehabilitation services for both inpatients and outpatients.
St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas , located at St. David's North Austin Medical Center , is recognized by the State of Texas as a Level IV Maternal Facility. This means it provides the highest level of care for pregnant and postpartum patients, especially those with serious or complex medical, surgical, or pregnancy-related conditions, including those at high risk for maternal morbidity or mortality. The center includes a 95+ bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 30+ private rooms, 10+ rooms for very small babies, and 10+ beds for babies needing neurological care. It also has 35+ labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, including Central Texas’ first low-intervention birthing suites with tubs. There are 95+ postpartum beds, 20+ antepartum beds, and Cesarean section surgical suites. The facility offers 24/7 neonatology coverage, OB/GYN hospitalists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, lactation consultants, and a midwifery program. It is part of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network and TexasAIM, and it also provides a high-risk pregnancy navigation and support program.
St. David's Surgical Hospital is part of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and is the first Level 4 Epilepsy Center in Central Texas for both adults and children. It has its own 24-hour emergency department, a medical-surgical inpatient unit, and a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for patients ages 17 and under. The hospital is staffed with pediatric emergency physicians, pediatric hospitalists, intensivists, and other specialists who are specially trained to care for children. It also includes certified child-life specialists who help kids feel more comfortable during their hospital stay. St. David’s Children’s Hospital offers many pediatric services, such as pediatric surgery, pediatric radiology (including imaging and interventional procedures), and pediatric anesthesia for surgical support. It also has a wide range of pediatric specialists available for consultation and treatment, including general surgery, ENT (ear, nose, and throat), craniofacial and plastic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, urology, and cardiology, among others.
