Bechtel is looking for an HR Communications Specialist to work closely with our Human Resources, Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards teams to communicate effectively across the organization. This role sits at the intersection of people strategy and storytelling—translating HR priorities into communications that build trust, drive action and reflect who we are.

The right candidate is a strong writer with sound judgment and a steady hand. You know when to be plainspoken and when to be warm. You can help develop a change communications plan on Monday and write benefits enrollment content that people actually open on Tuesday. You’re comfortable managing assigned communications from draft through delivery, with guidance on complex or sensitive topics. You’re curious about how AI and new channels can help us reach a workforce that spans offices, job sites and everything in between.

You’re also a thoughtful partner who understands audiences, asks good questions and brings ideas to the table. You know that sending an email isn’t a communications strategy—and think creatively about the right message, messenger, channel and timing for each audience.

You’ll join a Corporate Affairs & Marketing organization that is actively evolving how we communicate. We’re experimenting with AI and new technologies, getting smarter about channels and audiences, and finding ways to make communications more relevant, useful and engaging for colleagues around the world.

Major Responsibilities:

• Partner with HR colleagues and the communications team to develop and deliver communications plans that support people priorities across the enterprise.
• Support change communications for organizational shifts, policy updates and process changes, developing clear messaging, timelines and leader toolkits with guidance from communications leads.
• Develop content and coordinate campaigns for benefits, Total Rewards, performance cycles and open enrollment that drive awareness and participation.
• Partner with Talent Acquisition on employer brand and recruitment marketing, connecting HR messaging with our external talent story.
• Draft and edit communications for HR leaders, including emails, town hall remarks, talking points and intranet content, coordinating review and approval with the communications team.
• Develop manager and leader materials so people leaders can carry messages forward with confidence and consistency.
• Partner with Employee Resource Groups and culture programs to amplify employee voices and lived experience.
• Track communications effectiveness, including open rates, engagement, sentiment and program participation, and use the findings to recommend improvements.
• Support sensitive and confidential communications with discretion, care and sound judgment.
• Use employee feedback and channel performance to improve communications plans and content.
• Help maintain HR communications calendars and coordinate timelines and approvals so initiatives are sequenced thoughtfully and employees aren’t overwhelmed by competing messages.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Communications, Public Relations or a related field and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Functional

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex HR and policy content into clear language.
• Experience in HR, employee or change communications; experience within a large, global or distributed organization is preferred.
• Experience using internal communications tools and channels, such as SharePoint, Viva Engage, Microsoft Teams, email distribution platforms, intranet content management systems and Canva.
• Understanding of employee engagement measurement, survey data and sentiment, and how to use findings to improve communications.
• Working knowledge of change communications and how it helps employees navigate organizational change.
• Ability to adapt communications for different employee populations, roles, geographies and organizational levels.
• Understanding of communications channels and the ability to recommend appropriate formats, messengers and timing for different audiences.
• Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies and how they can help us reach a global workforce.

• Collaborative mindset and ability to build credibility with HR partners and communications colleagues through thoughtful recommendations and reliable delivery.
• Confidence to ask questions, offer ideas and recommend a different approach when it could improve communications.

• Strong organizational and project management skills, with close attention to detail.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate work across time zones.
• Professionalism and sound judgment when working with leaders and subject matter experts, including knowing when to seek guidance.
• Strong copyediting and proofreading skills.
• Ability to take ownership of assigned work and deliver under daily or weekly deadline pressure.
