Accountant - Revenues

AccountantAs a key member of the Financial Services team, an Accountant is to perform governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting in accordance with GASB and GAAP as they relate to municipal finance. This position is a resource for the compilation of financial reports, budget, data analysis, and special projects. Accountants may be general in nature or assigned to specific area of accounting responsibility.Essential Functions/Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesGeneral expectations for all employees include understanding how team, department, and City goals are interconnected, contributing to a positive work culture, maintaining regular and reliable attendance, assessing work performance, contributing to the development of others, working as part of a team, and continuously learning and developing through training opportunities.Essential duties and responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, and preparing financial information for accounting entries, preparing journal entries and financial reports, maintaining accounting workpapers, reconciling ledger transactions, participating in year-end audit process, reviewing contracts, ensuring financial reporting complies with legal requirements, maintaining credibility, responding to departments with general ledger inquiries, and performing other duties as assigned or directed.Other job functions include performing treasury and debt management accounting, capital improvements program budgeting and accounting, fixed asset accounting, federal and state grant compliance, revenue accounting, expense accounting, and compliance reporting.Knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors include embracing the City's core values, effective communication, producing desired work outcomes, planning and organizing work, knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, utilizing data sources, analyzing data, reconciling accounts, using Microsoft Excel, producing reliable calculations, speaking and dealing tactfully with others, exercising sound judgment, identifying and implementing process improvements, assessing proposals and contracts, working under time pressures, demonstrating integrity and dependability, being collaborative and flexible, and having strong oral and written skills.Required QualificationsMinimum qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration, or closely related field, and three (3) years of responsible experience in financial or accounting administration. Preferred qualifications include local government experience. Conditions of employment include passing a drug screen and background check.Physical Demands/SupplementalTasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Some tasks require visual and sound perception and discrimination and oral communications ability.
