Unit School of Dentistry Department Pediatric Dentistry Duties & Responsibilities The School of Dentistry’s Department of Pediatric Dentistry isseeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to provideteaching, research, scholarly activities, and patient care. The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry islocated in downtown Richmond, Virginia. With a 133-year history,Virginia’s only dental school offers opportunities for selected,qualified individuals to study dentistry and oral health throughits Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) program, graduate specialtytraining programs, and a dental hygiene program. The VCU School ofDentistry is one of a small number of dental schools in the countryaffiliated with an academic medical center, the only dental schoolin the Commonwealth, and one of the oldest dental schools in theUnited States, founded in 1893. It is one of six health sciencesacademic programs on the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Campusof VCU. Position Responsibilities Teaching Faculty members are expected to teach in an integrated curriculumsystem that includes baccalaureate, graduate, and professionaleducation. Teaching across traditional departmental lines and inmultidisciplinary teams is required. Faculty members are expectedto foster transformative learning that is informed byinterdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, andcreative expression. This includes teaching at affiliatedfacilities and supervision of dental and dental hygiene studentsand dental residents. Clinical Participation in the intramural faculty practice is expected,including hospital-based practice with the VCU Health System andthe Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Employees working in orwith VCUHealth in any capacity will be required to comply with allrelevant health system policies and procedures, including thehealth system's vaccination requirements. Research Participation in departmental, School of Dentistry, or VCU HealthSystem research projects is expected. For an appointment at therank of associate professor, the candidate will be required to havea well-developed scholarly research portfolio with evidence ofmulti-disciplinary applications. Service Faculty members will serve on departmental and other universitycommittees as necessary, and in their respective professionalfields. Qualifications Required Qualifications DDS / DMD degree or foreign equivalent A certificate in pediatric dentistry from an ADA-accreditedprogram Eligible or certified by the American Board of PediatricDentistry Eligible for licensure in Virginia Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environmentof respect, professionalism, and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences,or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU Demonstrated ability to contribute to, advocate for, andparticipate in a humanistic environment of learning Demonstrate the ability to adapt to change and embrace moderntechnology If tenure eligibility is desired, for an appointment at therank of the assistant professor, the candidate will be required tohave an established research agenda and a clear potential forexternal funding, and potential for a scholarship or creativeexpression to complement and expand existing expertise in thedepartment Preferred Qualifications History of clinical practice care, academic teaching, andscholarly activity Employees working in or with VCUHealth in any capacity will be required to comply with all relevant health system policies and procedures, including the health system's vaccination requirements.
