Statement of Duties Curriculum and Planning: Possesses sound knowledge and understanding of the subject matter and pedagogy, engaging students in learning experiences that enable complex knowledge and skill acquisition. Knowledge of developmental levels and provides differentiated learning experiences to progress toward intended outcomes. Designs units of instruction with measurable outcomes and challenging, higher-order-thinking tasks aligned to state standards/local curricula. Plans well-structured lessons with measurable objectives, appropriate engagement strategies, pacing, sequence, activities, materials, resources, technologies, and grouping. Assessment: Designs and administers informal and formal assessments, including common interim assessments, to measure student learning, growth, and progress. Analyzes assessment results to adjust practice and identify or implement differentiated interventions. Analysis: Uses assessment data to improve student learning. Shares conclusions with colleagues and seeks feedback on instructional or assessment practices. Provides descriptive feedback and engages students and families in constructive conversations. Instruction: Sets high expectations for quality of student work and effort, providing exemplars, rubrics, and guided practice. Uses instructional practices that motivate and engage most students. Applies tiered instruction and scaffolds for diverse learners, including those with disabilities and English learners. Creates rituals, routines, and responses that maintain a safe environment where students take academic risks. Develops interpersonal, group, and communication skills with diverse peers. Encourages students to identify strengths, interests, and needs, and to take academic risks. Promotes respect for and affirmation of diversity. Responds appropriately to conflicts arising from differences. Communicates specific standards for work, effort, and behavior. Models mastery learning through effort, not innate ability. Qualifications Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in Math 5-8 with SEI endorsement. Proficiency evidenced through transcripts of undergraduate and graduate work in relevant fields. Knowledge of middle school philosophy, organization, and curricula. Understanding of middle school students and adolescent needs. Knowledge of recommended middle school instructional practices. Alternatives to the above qualifications acceptable as determined by the Superintendent.
