Reinsurance Claims Director

Hybrid - 2 days in office (Tuesdays a MUST) - Morris County, NJ Job Description/Responsibilities: In this role, you will report directly to the Managing Director of Claims. The perfect candidate should possess a solid background in coverage along with advanced technical skills in handling claims. Experience in areas such as property, general liability, excess liability, specialty lines, and professional lines is essential, along with a thorough understanding of treaty reinsurance concepts and terms. A deep familiarity with the re/insurance sector, particularly in reinsurance claim handling, is required. This position may involve 20-30% travel for claim audits and client visits. It's crucial to ensure that all claims assigned to you are well-documented, reserved, and processed correctly. Identifying and resolving coverage concerns within reinsurance contracts and the related insurance policies is part of your responsibilities. You will also need to work with Underwriters, business partners, and external vendors to arrange audits, select files, conduct audits, and compile audit reports or summaries, while supervising vendor audits and sharing findings with internal teams. Engaging with brokers and cedents about specific account and claim information requests, coverage matters, payment inquiries, and any ceded concerns is necessary. It's vital to maintain a high degree of expertise related to claims and the industry, ensuring that you remain technically competent and able to communicate crucial issues and updates to Underwriters, Actuaries, and Executive Management. Collaborating with your claims team on issues related to claims, particularly large claims and potential accumulations, is important. Lastly, reviewing ceded claim reserves to ensure they are appropriately allocated to treaties and assessing whether additional case reserves are required is also part of your role. Keeping a high level of claim and industry expertise is essential to ensure technical competence and to inform Underwriters, Actuaries, and Executive Management about significant issues and relevant updates.
