Position Details Department: Health and Human Services (DHHS). Opening Date: June 15, 2026. Closing Date: June 29, 2026. Grade: 23. Salary: $49,275.20 – $69,139.20 per year. Location: Biddeford (anticipated vacancy). Supervision: District Supervisor. Full‑time, Monday–Friday, with partial telework approval after probation and operational needs. Core Responsibilities Senior Human Services Enforcement Agents perform investigative services work involving advanced, specialized legal and enforcement work related to child support and paternity establishment. Responsibilities include: Lead and initiate court actions related to child support, paternity establishment, and noncompliance without direct attorney oversight, including filing legal documents, preparing motions, and representing the State in District and Family Court. Act as the State’s representative in court, presenting cases related to paternity establishment, child support modification, and non‑compliance. Prepare evidence, draft legal documents, and engage in cross‑examination in judicial and administrative hearings. Provide legal referrals and prepare affidavits for legal proceedings, collaborating with the Office of the Attorney General when necessary. Oversee Human Services Enforcement Agents, providing mentorship and training to ensure staff proficiency in court‑related procedures and enforcement policies. Identify and apply legal strategies to pursue asset seizure, enforce child support orders, and ensure all actions conform to state and federal guidelines. Negotiate and establish child support agreements with responsible parents, avoiding unnecessary court actions by settling disputes administratively when possible. Interpret complex child support cases and take appropriate legal actions to establish, modify, or enforce support obligations. Evaluate and review paternity and child support cases and make recommendations for administrative or judicial action. Minimum Qualifications At least two (2) years of experience as a Human Services Enforcement Agent. Demonstrated experience handling complex child support cases, including paternity establishment, court enforcement, and administrative enforcement activities, with or without attorney oversight. Successfully completed a fingerprint‑based criminal history record check and maintaining it every five years. Background Checks Applicants are subject to pre‑employment screening including verification of minimum qualifications, application information, employment history, and references. Selected candidates must have a successfully completed fingerprint‑based criminal history record check on file and conducted every five years to ensure continued suitability.
