Summary This position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the Surgical Care Division. Responsibilities The Supervisory MSA duties included but not limited to: Assigning and evaluating work of subordinate staff Evaluating performance and taking disciplinary action when necessary Plan work schedules and assignments to assure even flow and distribution of work or achieve efficient operation Revises work schedules to expedite handling of priority cases, taking into consideration peak workloads and availability of manpower, thus increasing productivity as well as employee satisfaction. Coordinates outpatient area procedures and activities with representatives with other program areas and established administrative procedures and policies for the staff. Directly supervises the Advanced Medical Support Assistants in coordinating administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the MSA activities. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Supervisory Medical Support Assistant, GS-8 Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level leading or supervising MSAs or equivalent administrative patient support staff in a non-VA medical inpatient, outpatient, or interdisciplinary setting. AND; Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In Addition to the above basic requirements and experience, Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: i. Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties in a patient support setting, which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements. ii. Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations. iii. Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training related to administrative functions in a patient support setting. iv. Ability to delegate authority, evaluate and oversee people and programs, accomplish program goals, and adapt to changing priorities. Physical demands do not exceed those of a typical office setting. There may be some walking, standing twisting, turning, sitting, pushing, bending, repetitive keyboarding, or carrying of light items.
