Bus DriverThe Bus Driver fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by contributing to the safety of children while being transported to and from school and other events. This is accomplished within the framework of the school's philosophy and organization. The Bus Driver has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals serve as leaders of the schools to make Christ's mission present and enduring in the schools. In order to fulfill Christ's mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christ's mission and entrusting to them various responsibilities.Positions employed in this School help extend the ministry of the School leaders in particular ways as outlined in the job description. The employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the School leaders in the performance of their ministry and, therefore, engages in ministry for the Church.Essential DutiesSupports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the schoolActs as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic ChurchSupports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and DioceseMaintains confidentiality regarding school mattersCommunicates with the principal regarding safety/discipline concerns of studentsDemonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habitsTransports students to and from school and school activities in compliance with federal, state and local regulationsAbides by regulations and vehicle guidelines regarding maintenance and operation of vehiclesPerforms checks of the vehicles prior to use to ensure safe operationFollows all safety and emergency procedures while operating the vehicleMaintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students, and staffAbide by the rules regarding the safety and discipline of student ridersNotify Principal of occurrence of accidents and other important incidents and complete written reportsSubmits to Principal's office all requests for needed maintenance and repairs to vehicle(s)Class A or B CDL with School Bus endorsementWillingness to travel as far as Waco, Marble Falls, and San Antonio for athletics district competitionsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of motor vehicle laws and school policies and proceduresAble to manage student behavior respectfully and effectivelyAble to communicate effectively both orally and verballyAble to work well with others in the school communityAble to respond to a crisis effectivelyKnowledge in general vehicle maintenance and operationMinimum QualificationsEducation:Experience:None requiredCertifications and Training:Holds a valid Class B Texas Driver's LicenseHolds Passenger and/or School Bus (P and S) endorsements, as neededHolds a safe driving record and be free of restrictionsMust submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 30 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.Working Conditions:Required to manage high to moderate levels of stressRequired to work according to scheduleRequired to work in standard school and vehicle conditionsEmployee Certification:All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, the Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the social, ethical, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin.Texas is an "at-will" employment state.
