About the Role
Our client, a Fortune 50 retail leader, is seeking a Senior Frontend Software Engineer to join their Indirect Planning Engineering team. This team is responsible for maintaining, modernizing, and evolving a large portfolio of enterprise React applications that support critical business capabilities across the organization.
The environment is a large-scale frontend ecosystem consisting of dozens of React-based applications, paired with a modern backend built on Java/Kotlin Spring Boot microservices. You'll be stepping into mature systems where your ability to quickly understand existing code, drive meaningful improvements, and collaborate across multiple teams will directly impact the user experience for enterprise-wide business functions.
This role is best suited for engineers who thrive in complex enterprise environments, are comfortable jumping into established codebases with minimal onboarding, and are passionate about modernizing legacy applications while delivering secure, high-quality frontend experiences. Job Description
As a Senior Frontend Software Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the future of a large enterprise React ecosystem. You'll contribute to modernization efforts, improve performance and maintainability, and help establish frontend engineering best practices across teams.
Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain enterprise React applications supporting critical business capabilities
• Build and enhance applications within a Micro Frontend architecture
• Modernize legacy React implementations and refactor class-based components into modern React patterns
• Improve frontend performance, scalability, and maintainability across the application portfolio
• Remediate frontend security vulnerabilities and support secure development practices
• Improve accessibility and usability in alignment with WCAG standards
• Build reusable and maintainable shared components for use across multiple applications
• Participate in architecture discussions and peer code reviews
• Collaborate with backend engineers, UX partners, and product teams to deliver cohesive solutions
• Promote frontend engineering best practices and drive continuous improvement across teams

Candidates should also understand how to responsibly leverage AI tools to support code comprehension, refactoring, test generation, documentation, bug investigation, and modernization work — while maintaining strong engineering judgment and upholding security, accessibility, and maintainability standards. Required Qualifications

• Strong experience with React 18+, Typescript, and working in large enterprise codebases
• React
  • Strong hands-on experience with React 18+
  • Deep knowledge of React Hooks, Context API, and custom hooks
  • Experience with React Router
  • Familiarity with error boundaries, code splitting, lazy loading, and component composition
• TypeScript
  • Advanced TypeScript experience
  • Strong understanding of generics, utility types, and type-safe API integration
  • Ability to design and maintain scalable TypeScript-based frontend code
• Enterprise Frontend Development
  • Experience working in large enterprise codebases
  • Background modernizing legacy React applications
  • Proven ability to complete large-scale refactoring efforts
  • Ability to simplify state management and improve maintainability
