This position involves running CMM programs, interpreting engineering prints, and verifying that parts meet strict specifications for customers in aerospace and defense. The role is ideal for mechanically inclined individuals who are eager to learn and develop inspection skills in a modern precision manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical inspections of parts using precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other metrology equipment to tolerances down to +/- 0.001.
- Run and monitor coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programs to perform detailed dimensional inspections of components.
- Inspect parts using both manual and automated methods, ensuring all measurements meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
- Read and interpret engineering prints and drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), to understand inspection requirements.
- Follow written job orders, work instructions, and quality procedures accurately and consistently.
- Perform basic math calculations to verify dimensions, tolerances, and inspection results.
- Conduct visual inspections to identify defects, surface irregularities, and nonconformances.
- Use hand tools to deburr and handle parts safely and correctly as needed during the inspection process.
- Document inspection results clearly and accurately, maintaining proper records in accordance with quality control requirements.
- Collaborate with team members in the shop and quality department to resolve issues and support continuous improvement.
- Participate in cross-training across various aspects of the shop to build broader manufacturing and inspection knowledge.
- Adhere to all applicable regulations and internal policies related to ITAR compliance and quality standards.
- Proficiency using physical inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to tolerances of approximately +/- 0.001.
- Ability and willingness to be cross-trained in all aspects of the shop and support multiple functions as needed.
- Ability to follow written job orders, work instructions, and documented procedures accurately.
- Capability to perform basic math to support dimensional inspection and verification tasks.
- Eligibility to work in an ITAR-compliant environment.
- Basic understanding of print reading and the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Foundational knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Comfort using metrology tools and precision inspection equipment.
- Strong mechanical inclination and hands-on aptitude.
- Attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset suitable for precision manufacturing and inspection work.
- Previous experience with CNC machining in a manufacturing environment is helpful but not required.
- Exposure to or experience with precision manufacturing, quality control, and inspection processes.
- Familiarity with coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and related software such as PC-DMIS or Calypso is beneficial.
- Experience using Zeiss or similar CMM equipment is a plus.
- Ability to perform visual dimensional inspections and verify critical features against specifications.
- Experience with hand tools, deburring, and safe handling of machined components.
- Comfort working with blueprints and visual dimensional (VIS DIM) inspection methods.
- Interest in developing a long-term career in aerospace machining and quality inspection.
- Willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and inspection techniques through structured training.
You will join a growing organization with strong projected growth driven by expanding aerospace and defense customers, providing long-term stability and development opportunities. The company offers structured training for individuals without prior inspection or machining experience, allowing you to build a valuable career in precision aerospace machining. You will have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, company-paid life insurance, a 401(k) retirement savings plan, paid time off, paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement opportunities. The culture supports learning, cross-training, and professional development in a clean, modern, and well-organized manufacturing environment.

You will work with a variety of precision inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other metrology equipment, as well as coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and related software such as PC-DMIS or Calypso, potentially including Zeiss systems. The training schedule is on a day shift, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., typically for 2 to 3 months. After training, the permanent schedule is a swing shift, Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The environment emphasizes adherence to quality procedures, ITAR compliance, and safe handling of parts and tools, with a professional shop setting and structured workflows.
