Billable Requirement: 150 hours/month minimum (~1,800 annual requirement) Quarterly Billable Bonus: for hitting 175+ billable hours/month. Annual Discretionary Bonus: $8,000 – $10,000 year-end bonus for achieving billable targets and firm contributions. Job Details Position Summary We are seeking 2 motivated Associate Attorneys with 2 to 10+ years of civil litigation experience to join our team. The ideal candidates will possess a background in municipal defense, school district litigation, civil rights, or employment law defense. This role involves independently managing an active caseload, taking and defending depositions, executing complex motion practice, handling court appearances, and maintaining active client reporting. Key Responsibilities Caseload Management: Independently handle a civil defense caseload from suit inception through resolution in both federal and state court actions. Substantive Writing & Practice: Draft pleadings, motions (including summary judgment motions), legal memoranda, discovery demands/responses, and client reporting letters. Depositions & Courtroom Advocacy: Conduct and defend depositions of parties, non-parties, and expert witnesses. Handle court appearances, preliminary conferences, and oral arguments. Core Practice Defense: Represent municipalities, school districts, and employers against claims involving Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, Section 1983 civil rights, IDEA/special education, and general negligence. Billing & Client Reporting: Accurately record billable time and maintain regular communications and progress updates with insurance carriers, public entity clients, and corporate leaders. Requirements & Qualifications Licensure: Active admission to the New York State Bar. Experience: 2 to 10+ years of civil litigation defense experience. Candidates with government/public-sector legal experience or judicial law clerk experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Core Skills: Demonstrated experience taking/defending depositions, handling motion practice, and conducting heavy legal writing.
