Tutor, Early College Opportunities/Gear UP Department: Early College Opportunities Reports To: AVP, Early College Opportunities Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req6215 Employment Type: Part-Time Support Staff Union Position: Non-Union Work Schedule: Standard College Hours: M-F, 8:30am-5pm Number of Openings: 0 SUMMARY Works directly with students, providing academic tutorial assistance in support of the material taught in mathematics or literacy classes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides one-to-one and small-group tutoring Develops and implements non-credit workshops Conducts “class visits” and assists with publicizing services Assists with maintenance of records Completes all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials Performs other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING Education consistent with the department needs & minimum of Associate’s degree in related field of study KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES Demonstrated knowledge and competence of fundamental/advanced mathematics concepts with the ability to apply in various situations Ability to explain concepts to others effectively Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds Possess patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere through: Professional decorum and appearance Ethical and professional conduct Promptness Courtesy and tact Possess strong organizational and time-management skills Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships Possess working knowledge of administrative and scheduling concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations Demonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population COMPETENCIES CRITICAL COMPETENCIES Service Focus Communications Quality of Work VERY IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES Collaboration Time Utilization IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES Adaptability Continuous Improvement PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.
