Key Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse - Emergency Room/Emergency Department

• Obtain and record initial assessment and establish priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
• Re-assess patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention.
• Develop and implement a measurable individualized plan of care for the patient within the established time frame by Nursing Standards of Care.
• Make comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcome; modify the plan of care based upon evaluations.
• Participate in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning.
• Implement and document timely interventions appropriate to patient needs.
• Evaluate the plan of care.
• Perform various Point of Care testing procedures.
• Utilize effective communication strategies, which result in intended outcomes.
• Delegate unit work assignments appropriately to ensure completion of required patient care support activities.
• Coordinate team assignments and make adjustments based upon patient and unit needs; follow up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness.

Requirements of the Registered Nurse - Emergency Room/Emergency Department

• Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nursing.
• Current New Mexico RN license or current Compact state license.
• BLS Certification required.
• ACLS Certification required.
• PALS Certification required.
• TNCC Certification required.
• CPI or equivalent preferred.
