Interior Design Part-Time Lecturer (Academic Year 2025-2026)

Position Title Interior Design Lecturer (Part‑time) Position Summary The Interior Design Program invites part‑time faculty candidates to teach undergraduate courses in Interior Design, including studio and seminar courses. Courses will incorporate digital media and meet CIDA standards. Faculty are expected to uphold the highest professional ethics aligned with the UIW Mission. Essential Functions Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures in courses such as Architectural Drafting, Form, Space & Theory, Space Planning, Sketching & Rendering, Interior Materials, History of the Built Environment, Codes and Construction Documents, Professional Practice and Furniture Design. Prepare and administer timely and meaningful exams and assessments for assigned courses. Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes are met. Be available outside of class to help students learn and answer their questions (approximately 1 hour per 3‑hour class), physically or electronically. Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and procedures, including record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students. Document lectures, PowerPoints, handouts, and student tests and projects for CIDA binders; complete the binder at the end of each semester. Maintain respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom. Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to deliver instruction both in‑person and online as needed. Ability to effectively learn, use, and incorporate industry‑relevant technology into teaching, including AR/VR, 3D printing, and AI applications. Willingness and flexibility to teach day‑ and evening‑course sections as needed. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated time‑management and detail‑oriented skills. Computer‑based skills, including design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp; analytical and report‑writing skills. Commitment to implementation of CIDA standards in all courses within scope of responsibility. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA. Required Education Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or a closely related field (with significant work experience in the interior design field) for lecture‑based courses. Master’s Degree in Interior Design or a closely related field for studio‑based courses. Required Work Experience Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in the field of Interior Design. Preferred Qualifications Terminal degree (Ph.D., MFA, or MID) in Interior Design or a closely related field. NCIDQ Certificate Holder. Registered Interior Designer. WELL AP or LEED Green Associate. Two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education. Active membership in IDEC, ASID, IIDA, AIA, or NKBA. Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations NCIDQ Certificate Holder is required to teach studio‑based classes. Work Hours Based on the course assignment. Physical Demands Typical for faculty in this discipline. Reports To Dean of the School of Media and Design.
