Professor and Director of the School of Communication, Language, and Culture, College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA) Location: San Antonio, TX Regular/Temporary: Regular Job ID: 15172 Full/Part Time: Full Time Salary Range Commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications. Position Summary The University of Texas at San Antonio School of Communication, Language, and Culture invites applications for a tenured Professor to serve as the inaugural director for an initial term of three years, renewable, beginning August 1, 2026. The new school brings together specializations in bilingual and community journalism, digital communication and media influence, digital humanities, health communication, interpersonal communication, languages, linguistics, literary studies, organizational communication, and translation and interpreting studies, among other areas. The director will lead the new school, bring together the Departments of Communication and Modern Languages & Literatures, forge and implement long‑term goals, recruit students and faculty, develop robust curricula, foster faculty development, and build donor and alumni relationships. Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of the School’s strategic vision and long‑term goals. Collaborate with Departments of Communication and Modern Languages & Literatures to integrate programs, curricula, and research. Recruit and mentor students and faculty, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community. Develop and oversee novel and robust curriculum offerings, including new 4‑year, 2‑year, and certificate programs. Foster faculty development and leadership, supporting teaching excellence and scholarly productivity. Build and maintain relationships with donors, alumni, and external partners to support program growth. Serve as a principal academic leader, representing the School at institutional and external events. Manage course releases and teaching commitments (typically two courses per semester with two course releases per year). Qualifications Required Qualifications Earned a doctorate in a discipline represented by current faculty in the new School. Ability to navigate multiple disciplines and facilitate collaboration across them. Experience leading a complex academic unit or program. Demonstrated management experience and ability to mentor faculty and students through change. Track record of supporting innovative research and teaching and securing competitive external funding. Evidence of ability to secure grants and external funding for own work, where applicable. Skills and interest in engaging donors and alumni to create new relationships. Distinguished record of scholarship with extensive publications commensurate with a tenured position at a research‑intensive university. Outstanding record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Active research agenda and classroom excellence as administrative duties permit. Commitment to serving the university and community through service activities and outreach. Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure. Position Details This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility. The position is contingent upon a successful background check.
